Events Information and Suggestion Thread

Do you have an idea for an event the site should have? Suggest it here! Make sure to note what kind of event it is. Think about who would have access to the event, and what kind of participation is needed. Sign-ups? Matchmakers?

There are two kinds of events at Hammel:

Occasions- These are the things like dances, parties, retreats, and graduations. There are a few of them every year, and they vary depending on interest. Some are time-sensitive, like the annual Holiday Bash. Big occasions with many participants will get a sub-board where people can create multiple threads.

We are always looking for people interested in creating occasions, in addition to the annual ones. If your character is interested in hosting a community field day, a school job fair, or another occasion, talk to staff.

Occasions are always In-Character and canon.

Special Events- These are the events that run bi-monthly. They are sitewide events that affect many threads, and have some kind of theme. Time Warps, Thread Roulette, Power Swaps, Flu Outbreaks, and AUs all fall into this category. Here is a summary of special events that will absolutely return. Special Events have threads with lists of links to all threads in that event. Time Warps and Thread Roulette are very popular and usually run twice a year.

Time Warp- You can create a thread in your character's future or past. While the timeline of Hammel is a little flexible, it is still linear. These allow for you to play at times outside of the scope of the site. Time warp past threads are considered canon. Future threads are considered non-canon unless stated otherwise.

Thread Roulette- Players sign up to be semi-randomly assigned to threads with other players. Then staff creates a thread prompt for each thread. Roulette threads are considered canon.

Power Swap- Players sign up their characters to have their powers semi-randomly reassigned or taken away all together. Characters then wake up with new abilities and have to deal with that. Chaos typically ensues. Power Swap threads are always non-canon.

Notes on terms:

Referring to something as canon means it is a fact of the site. It is something that exist or has happened in the Hammel Universe. Non-canon means that, while it might have happened in a thread or a story, the person who wrote it and the staff consider it to not be a fact of Hammelverse. All threads are canon unless they are part of a non-canon event, a future thread in a Time Warp, or staff states otherwise. Most challenge stories are non-canon.

Semi-randomly means a random list generator is likely used, but staff will tweak results for maximum amusement.

Event: I've seen boards that have a 'dares' thread, where players dare other players to have a certain thing happen in game. For example, I might dare Splatty to have Devon come to school sometime with his pants on backwards. Splatty, should she take the dare, would have to figure out why/how to make this happen and work it into either a current thread or a new one. For an event, I would suggest a list of volunteers and a list of dares matched randomly (and of course that the dares follow the ToS).

Event: 2033. Non-canon (or canon, if you know), what your chars are doing twenty years from now.

Event Idea: Reality Show. Randomly matched pairs or threesomes are put into reality show situations. For example, a blind date, a cook off, a race of some sort, having to room together for a day in an odd place, being put in charge of something they don't have any experience in doing, having to learn and perform an activity to a certain degree of competence in a given time, etc.

Event Idea: EVERYONE gets a gestalt. All participants are paired off. Including anyone who is already a gestalt (should they participate). Level of synch can either be randomly assigned (kind of, mostly, completely) or decided by each pair. In the event of an uneven number of participants, there is a gestalt triplet set.

Event: First Class. All participants are suddenly members of Hammel's first group of students back in 1932. Strict/extensive research/adherence to history is not required, but having a cellphone... no.

Event: Speed dating. Everyone who wants to participate enters in a thread. A group of people (about half) are assigned threads with age categories on them, so there might be a thread labelled, Zac Stanson (Late Teens), the ages being decided by how old that person is. Then people of that age category take it in turns posting in those threads. E.g. Sydnee's character Teagan might post in Zac's thread for a couple of posts. Then Lux's character Aryana might come to Zac's table and Teagan would go to another thread. It would rotate round, with people swapping over.
Of course, some things might not be perfect, but that's my idea anyway.

Event: Power Down
One, or several electrokinetics are training / using their powers / whatever. They cause a massive surge in the power board at Hammel, producing a blackout one night. The magnitude also effects the grid of Pilot Ridge. Characters are forced to find ways to entertain themselves for hours until the situation is reversed. Chaos ensues. Because there's always, always chaos.

Occasion(?): Dr. Isabela Monroe's Valentine's Day Flour Sack Baby Health Class Week-Long Extraordinaire
Basically, the idea is that Izzy runs a mandatory health class where students are paired randomly and forced to care for a sack of flour for a week. Her aim is to teach them, y'know, parental skills. How to care for babies in the form of mundane objects. Said baby must be with one parent at all times. Said parents must be seen together for a majority of the time. Though it's listed as mandatory, players will sign their characters up for the activity. Pairings will be 100% random. Chaos will likely ensue. Ferris has offered to cook an epic pancake breakfast afterwards. Anyone who fails is stuck on dish duty.

Event: Body Swap (not Canon, of course)

I know it's been suggested once before somewhere, and I have no idea if it's been done, but a body swap event could be fabulous ^^

Either your character would completely swap into the other person's body (I.e. 1 would have still have their own thoughts, but they would have 2's power or be unpowered, depending, and they would be in 2's body) OR your character would partially swap (meaning the same as the above, but 1 would keep their power/non-power whilst being in another body)

I have no idea if this appeals because it's pretty similar to the power swap event, but it could cause a whole lotta chaos.

And I know how we Hammelites like to cause chaos ;D

Event: Community Service Event

Ideas (Link thanks to Pollo) but basically the school gets together and volunteers to help out the community. Yay!

Event: Team Building Day

I was thinking that maybe Hammel should do a parent /guardian day. A day were the family of the students can come up and meet the trainers and teachers and take a look around Hammel. Maybe have some fun games prizes and you know cool activities.

Also maybe aa scavenger hunt or a day where everyone has to use their powers towards like some common goal or something. So I guess kind of like the team building thing Syd said.

I like the idea of a snow in. Maybe a big storm hits pilot ridge and everyone gets stuck in different places with different people. Everyone should have the option to have staff pick or make separate boards but I think it will be more fun randomize it all.

Clue - Similar to the roulette thread, players will be assigned randomly into groups. Each group will have a mystery to solve. One person would be the culprit (that person only will be PM-ed).
