TR: Stop! (Uriah and Gwen)

If you had precognition and new that guy across the street was about to be hit by a car, you’d do something to stop it, right?

Uriah was very happy. Today just felt like it was going to be a good day, and he decided to go with it. When he woke up,he took a short run to get himself going. It was great. When he got back he took a quick shower and dressed a little spiffier than he normally would. He couldn't tell why but he just felt invigorated.

Not sure exactly what he wanted to do on such a great day, he headed downtown. Deciding to walk instead of driving, it took longer than it would normally but the shops were open by then. At first he just sort of window shopped but at one shop in particular something caught his eye. It was a beautiful clarinet.

While he didn't specifically play the instrument himself, he could appreciate a piece of art like that. He went inside and after perusing the rest of the store and admiring the clarinet itself he went back outside. His mind was still on the clarinet so he didn't bother looking as he walked across the street.

His only warning was a screech of tires and someone laying on their horn. His eyes barely registered the car that was just about to hit him. He knew he couldn't get out in time and in an instant had said a final prayer. 'Here I come Lord' were the last thoughts that went through his mind before something hit him.

Gwen had been on her way downtown, as was her usual routine. When she was not taking her classes over at the community college, or giving herself migraines with almost futile training at Hammel, she was just out and about by the city, usually by herself. Over the years, she had learned to keep herself busy, as company was hard to come by. She had also learned to look like she wasn't bothered by that fact. So, what if she was going alone to the movies? Or the mall? Or the restroom? So what if she was getting a table for one at a restaurant? If there was anything to take from years of experience, it was to keep yourself preoccupied so people don't assume you're lonely.

Take this instance, for example. Gwen was biking on her way to the local bookstore and peruse through volume 17 of The Walking Dead. Yes, there is a highly popular TV series of the comic book. No, she doesn't care if there is a highly popular TV series of the comic book. But that argument was for another story.

A man. A car. Said man gets hit by said car, rolls onto the roof, and sprawls on the pavement. Bloody. Unmoving. Possibly lifeless. Just barely snapping out of her psychic reverie, Gwen swerved her bike away from the lamp post she almost hit, and stepped on the pedals. The man in the vision looked familiar-- they didn't know each other, but she might have seen him around Hammel. In the vision, there was a music store across the street she recognized, just two blocks away from the bookstore. The accident could happen any minute now.

When the right street came into view, she pushed on the pedals harder, until her legs almost felt numb. In no time, there was the gruesome scenario waiting to happen: an absent-minded, possibly deranged man, a speeding car realizing it was too late to step on the brakes. Gwen soon did the unthinkable.

Beating a second before the impact, she knocked the man out of the way, while Gwen flew out of her bike, before landing on the curb.

Uriah opened his eyes. He was looking at the sky. There were still clouds. He was pretty sure that he was still alive. A moment later when the pain hit him, he realized he was definitely alive. The back of his head hurt a lot, and he wasn't entirely certain why. Then he realized it was because it had hit the curb when he had been knocked over. That explained why he could see the sky, but the clouds looked a little fuzzier than normal.

Trying to sit up was a mistake too. He immediately felt sick in his stomach and tried not to hit his already injured head on the curb again. Even slowing the movement as much as possible, it made him nearly cry out when the injury touched back onto the concrete. He didn't fully grasp it, but his thinking was definitely being slowed.

"Umm... Hello? Could someone lend a hand please... I think I might need an ambulance..." Somewhere in his head he knew enough about first aid to know that head and neck injuries were best left to professionals. But he wasn't really in the position to explain this to anyone who might come to his rescue. So for now he closed his eyes and tried to remain awake...

He was mostly successful.
