His last trainer had gone away, and Tomer had not made much, if any progress since then. He'd been given a bit of a break after his wrist broke while they found him a new trainer, and then he was told he was now a trainee of a Ms. Evangeline Jada. Tomer didn't know a lot about her, but he hoped she wouldn't be too strict. Not that he was afraid of strict people, but they tended to stare a lot and he was already pretty uncomfortable. His right wrist, from palm to elbow, was in a dark blue fiberglass cast held in a sling. Under his collared shirt, green sweater, and jeans, he sat rather rigidly due to the braces he wore from the neck down. Normally on crutches, the lack of one hand had relegated him to his wheelchair and he was still embarrassed about it. The chair, not the cast. Well kind of. It was his writing hand, and that meant he was getting a bit of special help and shorter lessons, and that made some of the kids a little surly.
Tomer also didn't know if Ms. Jada knew about his connection to Sean, but hoped she didn't. It made people treat him weird sometimes. His session that day was scheduled in the largest training room Hammel had (which was really big). For demonstration purposes, Tomer hadn't let any of his stored energy out all day so she'd have something to work with past that initial first blast. There often weren't very many more, three at most, and he hoped that would be enough.
The broken wrist had had one other effect, though Ms. Jada might not notice. Tomer was looking thinner than usual, and it showed in his cheekbones, chin, and fingers. Eating was already difficult, but eating in a wheelchair while utterly mortified with your non-dominant hand meant that a lot of meals were going half-eaten if that, and his power ended up sapping more as a result. He was avoiding Sean for that reason, he thought the man would have him come over for dinner to help out, and that was too embarrassing to think about.
Feeling more anxious and timid than usual, he maneuvered his electric chair into the room and then over to his new trainer. She looked nice. Tomer dared to hope it might not be a complete disaster.
