General Appearance: Oliver stands at an average height for a teenage boy, at around 5'10. He's fit and muscular, but not bulky, as he enjoys jogging and playing basketball. Oliver has light/medium brown hair that's usually meticulously styled into a fauxhawk with thick eyebrows that match. His eyes are a medium shade of brown that have reddish undertones to them, with a curious spark to them. Due to spending time outside exercising, Oliver had slightly tanned skin and is quite dark compared to other people from Minnesota (or Vermont.) His ears are larger than average but has a beaming white smile that makes up for it. He loves smiling and laughing, and nearly always will have a grin on his face

Oliver practically lives in plaid button up shirts paired with a plain t-shirt and a well fitting pair of jeans. Usually, a pair of Vans will be on his feet, unless working out. Even after time apart, Oliver still wears a friendship bracelet made for him by AJ when they were in middle school.

Despite looking like a stereotypical jock, Oliver loves reading and writing, and can usually be found carrying around his journal and whatever novel he happens to be reading at the time in a backpack. 
Personality: When first meeting the teenage boy, people are always surprised to see how quiet and reserved Oliver is. He looks like an outgoing jock, but is uncomfortable in crowds and parties with strangers. During initial meetings, Oliver only speaks when necessary, and prefers expressing himself through written words. He has a lot of acquaintances but only opens up to a select few due to his shyness.

He's compassionate, always thinking of others before himself. Oliver genuinely cares for his close friends and family members' problems. He's sympathetic, almost to the point of being sensitive. Oliver is in tune to his emotions and other people's feelings. It's why he is effective with his diction and writing realistic pieces that affect reader's emotions. 

Oliver lacks an ego. He's modest, to the point of it being an annoyance. Any compliments will either be brushed aside due to his modesty. It's nearly impossible for him to accept a simple compliment. He can also be a bit oblivious to how real life works. His main negative trait is his stubborn nature. Oliver won't admit defeat on a subject, if passionate about said subject. Once he decides his opinion/actions, they won't change course.

Strengths: Oliver has above average reading and writing skills, giving him an easy time in English class and like classes. He's a good listener and sympathetic towards others. He's also a talented basketball player who is modest.
Weaknesses: Oliver can be a bit headstrong and will come across as stubborn. At times, Oliver can be oblivious and naive. In uncomfortable and unfamiliar situations, he is quiet and shy.
Fears: Hurting AJ... again. Oliver also fears that while phasing, he will get stuck in whatever object he tries to pass through
Secret: Sophomore year, Oliver had a thing for AJ. Unknowingly, she had manifested her ability which had messed up his pheromones. At the time, Oliver had a crush on AJ and asked her to the school dance. Once there, he made a move on her and threw himself on her. To this day, Oliver still blames himself and resents what he did.

History

Oliver's parents liked to joke that when he was born, he came out holding a pen and a notebook. He was born in small town Minnesota as the only child of the Barnes family. They lived in the average American middle class, living comfortably. His dad worked at the local high school, teaching history while his mom helps run the (only) local health food store. Due to his shyness, Oliver always found it hard to make friends. It was hard speaking to people, and he didn't even have any siblings to talk to about it or keep him company. Until he met AJ

In middle school, Oliver noticed a quiet girl hiding in the corner of English class. Not literally hiding, but she looked involved with her book. He had decided to take a risk and sat down next to the pretty girl. Ever since then, the two had been inseparable. They were the best of friends. Every weekend involved something between them two. As time went on, Oliver's feelings grew for AJ, but he kept quiet, not wanting to ruin their friendship.

Until the dance. Sophomore year of high school, he had decided to act upon his desires. Oliver asked AJ to the Fall Formal, their first and only dance together. His crush for the beautiful girl was massive, almost overwhelming. They both hated crowds and parties and would survive together. Except, things didn't go as planned. AJ had manifested her ability which happened to be pheromone manipulation. Oliver had wanted to kiss the girl... but ended up ruining the night by forcing himself on her. She'd managed to free herself, and got away. After a couple of awkward conversations, AJ transferred schools and he never saw her again.

A few months later, in the midst of his minor bout with depression, Oliver had been sitting outside, leaning against a brick wall. He had been writing furiously, when all of a sudden, his body went through the wall. His torso and head had gone through, scaring Oliver. He had no idea what had happened and still doesn't exactly remember what happens, as he fainted right afterwards. Oliver has a vague memory of the first time. Fearful, he tried again, only this time, he stuck his arm through the brick wall. Needless to say, Oliver was scared, and felt like the characters in the novels he read. Three days later, a recruiter came by his house as Oliver continued to stick his limbs and body through solid objects, fainting occasionally and feeling the pain and soreness throughout his body. He came to the conclusion that the recruiter must have seen him outside experimenting with phasing. Ever since then, Oliver has been at Hammel working on his power and trying to forget about AJ.
