What was he doing....

Kodi really knew nothing about all this... Imprinting stuff.  He knew what he felt, and he knew what little he had been told during the months that he had been... Changed, but that wasn't a lot, and nothing in great detail.  He knew that vampires, or at least his parents, tended to look down upon imprinting on humans.  It was... Too intimate.  Too much control, too much possibility of becoming attached to something that would die much before they would.  

But all the same... Kodi refused to regret it.  The night he'd shared with Gryphon was the best he could remember, in this life and his last.  He'd left his lover carefully hidden away in one of the numerous abandoned buildings around this part of town, having erased (or at least partially hidden) his scent trail in hopes that no one would track him.  Kodi would have brought him on this visit, had he not been terrified that his parents would kill him without question.  They hated hunters.

He reached the building the two older vampires lived, knocking a couple times as he stood and looked warily around.  With his luck, they would be able to tell as soon as they saw him what had happened.  Hell, his mother's senses were so strong, she might know already.  Kodi sighed and passed a hand through his hair, licking his lips self-consciously, afraid there might be traces of his lover's blood still there.

Carleigh sat on the one end of the coach, reading one of her favourite books. She hummed to herself, surprisingly alone for the evening. Her sweetheart River had gone off to go find more of those lollipops he was addicted to (seriously, it was a bad addiction) and go for a nightly walk. While the blonde usually accompanied her love on these walks, Carleigh just wanted to curl up on the couch and have a lazy night. She would see him later and enjoy the time by herself, for now.

Okay, it was kind of lonely and any time away from him, Carleigh felt the pain. She just loved him a lot, a lot. She heard the knock and raised an eyebrow. If it was River, he would have just walked in. The blonde felt like it was family though, a familiar feeling in her gut. Bookmarking her page, Carleigh answered the door with a soft, gentle smile on her face. "Ahh, Kodi, what a pleasant surprise." She greeted, stepping back to allow her son inside. "It's great to see you. Were you hurt in that little fight?"

She narrowed her eyes at her 'son' and cleared her throat. "Sorry for all the questions, just concerned. And... I can feel that you're kind of anxious at the moment."

The longer Kodi stood waiting, the more nervous he became; if he was live, his heart would have been pounding with anxiety. As it was, he just felt it in his head. What if they wanted to 'meet' Gryph? Or... What if they would just track him down and kill him? Kodi couldn't bear the thought, and there was no way he could fight both of them on his own...

When the door opened, he looked up uncertainly to meet the eyes of his very young-looking vampire mother. She was smiling; that was either good, or meant she was about to rip something's head off, he thought. "Hi," he said quietly, peeking around as he stepped inside. He didn't see River. "Where's Riv- dad?" he asked, biting his tongue. Now that he remembered the two turning him, he felt... Hollow, kind of. He wondered why they had done it. They had taken his mortal life from him...

He couldn't think about that now. "No, I'm fine," he assured her, going to settle on the couch. "I saw, um... That hunter hit dad," he mumbled. "Is he... Alright?" The older vampire was tough, Kodi was sure he was fine. "Don't worry, I'm not hurt," he reassured Carleigh again. At the mention of his anxiety, he turned his face away guiltily. ".... Yeah...." he mumbled, fidgeting. Surely she knew why. Kodi thought he caught a faint whiff of an unfamiliar smell in the room; it was vaguely familiar, he couldn't remember where. ".... Did you turn someone recently?" he asked, frowning. Why else would they have what smelled suspiciously like a newborn in their house?

Carleigh could sense Kodi's overwhelming anxiety, as it was starting to give her a headache and make the blonde stressed. She narrowed her eyes at her son, before forcing a smile onto her face. Something was wrong; clearly that's why her son was here, to talk to her about something. Carleigh wondered what was bothering Kodi... guess she would find out soon.

She watched his face for any change in expression, before sweetly smiling. "Oh, River just went out to get more of those lollipops he loves and then went on a walk. I decided to stay at home and just read." She said, nonchalantly with a shrug. It was unusual to see the two lovers apart though.

Ignoring Kodi's obviously fake declaration of being okay, Carleigh nodded. "Yeah, he's alright. His arm was numb for a bit but he did quickly recover." She explained, a slight twitch of a smirk appearing on her face. They got their revenge on the hunter, the young Junpei. He'd make a good vampire. She nodded. "Good, I don't want my little baby to get hurt." she said.

Pausing, Carleigh crossed her arms. "You going to start talking or will I have to probe you for emotions?" she asked. Her voice has the reassurance of a mother but also an irritated undertone. Why couldn't Kodi just tell her? His anxiety was driving her crazy.

"Yeah." She simply answered with a grin. "We'll have to arrange something so you can meet him."

"Oh..." Kodi mumbled, glancing at the door as if expecting River to appear at any moment. "He's... He's kind of addicted to those things, huh?" he chuckled awkwardly, attempting to lighten the atmosphere. It didn't really seem to work. He wondered what the candies were made out of; Kodi doubted it was just simple sugar. "Are you... Doing well, then?" he asked haltingly. He had never been that great at small talk; it was no different now.

He nodded when Carleigh said his 'dad' was fine, feeling relief despite his anger at them for what they had done to him. "That seemed like a pretty powerful hunter," he said quietly. "Thanks for, you know... Saving me..." He was pretty sure he would be dead otherwise, even with Gryphon's help. Spellcasters were tricky. Kodi did, though, have to resist the urge to cringe at the word 'baby'. It just felt... Strange.

But now she was starting to interrogate him, and Kodi swallowed hard, staring down at his hands. "Uh..." No way did he want her using her abilities to pull the information out of him. "Y... You know that other hunter that was there, that I ran off with?" he murmured, not meeting Carleigh's eyes. "He... He w-was my boyfriend, before..." Before you killed me. "I imprinted on him," he added monotonously. "I d-didn't mean to, it just... Happened..." All thoughts of this newborn vampire left his mind as he spoke of Gryphon, his stomach twisting nervously at admitting it to his mom. Had she ever imprinted, he wondered? Surely she'd lived long enough to have experienced it...

Carleigh laughed, half shrugging in response. River chronically consumed the lollipops, probably to deal with the constant thirst. Although herself and her lover could control themselves as older vampires, the temptation for blood was always there. Always. "They're a good substitute for hunting." She said with a grin, her eyes narrowing afterwards. Was Kodi trying to change the subject? She didn't appreciate it.

Laughing, Carleigh looked at her son with an incredulous expression. Why wouldn't she be okay? "Of course I am. I have a relaxing night ahead of my and two of my loves are okay after those vial hunters hurt you and River. I'm relieved and at ease."

Afterwards, Carleigh calmed down after her out of character outburst. "Sorry. He was... but, let's just say your father and I look care of of him." She flashed a vampy smile at Kodi, revealing her fangs as a hunt of what they did to the young Junpei. And what a brilliant plan that was.

The other hunter. Yes, Carleigh remembered, of course. The one that Kodi had run off with. "Yeah, the other guy... clearly not all that noble." She interrupted with a girlish giggle. "Ran off with you and left his poor partner all alone..." She trailed off, having already explained briefly what had happened to the other hunter. Carleigh waited for the rest of the explanation, nodding. Boyfriend, whatever, Carleigh didn't care. "So what? Keeping him around as a toy?" She asked with a wink.

And then...

"You what?" Carleigh's voice raised a few decibels, staring. She opened her mouth to say something, but couldn't. She shook her head, clearly in denial. "No, no... it can't be. That's... so difficult. You're undead and he's not... what the hell do you think you're going to do, huh?"[/i]

"Mmm... I guess that makes sense," Kodi responded, nodding. Maybe he'd have to steal some of the candies from his pops to deal with his own thirst. Although now that he had Gryph, maybe it wouldn't be so bad. He could just... Take sips from him occasionally. Yeah.

He managed a small smile. "Good. I'm glad, mother." Kodi didn't want her to be hurt. Even with the anger, that was the last thing he wanted. They were two of the only people that actually cared about him. "Ah... That's good," he agreed a little awkwardly. So they'd turned the other hunter. Interesting... He had to wonder exactly why. He probably hated Gryphon for leaving him... Someone else Kodi would have to watch out for.

Clearly not all that noble. Kodi's eyes flashed angrily, and he had to keep himself from snapping. "He may not have made the right choice for his partner, but he's-" Kodi stopped and swallowed hard, gaze dropping to his lap as he fidgeted. "He left him to save me..." he mumbled. He'd never felt so alive since he turned. "N-no, not a toy...!" At least... He didn't think so. That's not what imprinting was, right?

Well, apparently it wasn't a good thing, at least in his mother's book. Kodi winced at the sound of her voice, cringing back slightly. Carleigh angry was not something he wanted to see; it was terrifying. "I-I didn't mean to!" he repeated desperately. "He j-just told me to drink from him, and that he trusted me, and it j-just happened..." Kodi hid his face in his hands. "I don't know, I don't know what I'm going to do..." he whimpered. "Mom, I l-love him."

"It's a decent alternative. I never got too into them." Carleigh added with a shrug. Then again, she couldn't be bothered. Lollipops always took so long to consume and when the immortal blonde wanted to ease her thirst, it needed to be instant.

Smiling at Kodi, Carleigh quickly assessed the boy's posture and facial expressions. He still seemed incredibly fidgety and awkward. She narrowed her eyes slightly, her smile spreading. "Oh Kodi, we had no other choice. He was... much too powerful for our kind's good." A quick laugh escaped from her lips, as she crossed her ankles. "Pitied the young man as well. He's gifted and didn't deserve to die. So, we turned him." She explained, playing with the ends of her hair.

Her smirk only deepened when Kodi began to stick up for the other cowardly hunter. Somehow, she just knew that her baby was involved with the other hunter. Carleigh would have to confirm her suspicions later with River. "I guess then it was the right choice. Don't be surprised if the newest family member isn't a fan of you."

Seeing Carleigh angry was a rare sight. She didn't enjoy it when her temper flared, as the emotions always affected her. A dull ache began to form around her shoulders from Kodi's fear. Ugh. She pouted slightly, wishing that her lover was here to massage her. Carleigh shook her head several times, as if trying to rid Kodi's admittance from her head. "Imprinting... that's heavy, my child. You could turn him." She offered as a solution.

Loving a mortal? "If you're really so sure, then that's the only option my dear." Carleigh said, reaching over to pat his shoulder. "I... I still can't believe that happened to you."
