SUE: Lighter than Air (Maud and Kieron)

Maud is aerokinetic, so light-headedness is not uncommon. Still, feeling worse than usual, she seeks out the school nurse.

Maud rested her hand against the wall as she stumbles along the hall way. She pressed her shoulder against the wall, making out the infirmary sign and calling out shakily," Mr. Sharpe?" It had to be her prozac or concerta... But sje'd never felt this feverish before on her medicine... What if he couldn't hear her?

It had been a long morning. Between not sleeping very well last night and a few more patients than normal, Kieron was already tired as he got ready to go on his lunch break. Coffee and energy drinks were powering him through the day, which was hardly ideal but it was doing the job so far. Perhaps if he ate his lunch quickly enough, he could catch a ten-minute power nap before he went back on the clock for the afternoon stretch. After picking up his bag from his cubby in the infirmary staff room, Kieron fished out a small packet of the chocolate covered grasshoppers and popped one into his mouth as he headed out of the infirmary.

Crunching softly on the sweet bug, Kieron swallowed quickly and pocketed the packet when he saw one of the students looking not so great in the hallway. His lunch would have to wait a while. “Miss, what’s wrong? How are you feeling?”

" Mr. Sharpe!" She squeaks and smiles weakly, rubbing her eyes," Uhm... Sorry... But, I-I can't see... I don't think... It's my pills..."

With his break now gone to the wind, Kieron would have been grumpy had he not been quickly filling with concern about the obvious poor state of the girl in the hallway. She looked in a pretty bad way, and in the back of his mind Kieron registered that she was the third kid to come in sick today already. He hoped to God that this was not the sign of things to come.

Kieron's voice was calm and quiet as he approached the girl, nudging his sunglasses up his nose so he could get a better look over her condition without having to squint under the bright lights of the hallway. Her semi-statement was indeed deeply worrying. “Are you having vision problems?” Kieron held up three digits on his right hand. “Can you see how many fingers I am holding up?”

Maud frowns and breathes in quickly," When I start to get a migraine, my left eye goes blind..." She squints at his hand,"... Four?" She asks weakly, not seeming as if she was particularly confident in her answer.

Maud puts a hand over her left eye and squints a bit more," i'm not the only one though, huh?" She asks in a rasping voice

Kieron was of course deeply concerned when the girl seemed to genuinely give the wrong answer, rather than just faking it to try to get out of class like so many of the kids did. The main priority was to work out whether it was a normal side-effect based around her power, or if it was a symptom of something different and potentially more dangerous to her. “Does this happen often, or is this a very new thing?”

The nurse had no intention of speaking about the other students in the infirmary, especially in case the answer spooked her. Sure there were a lot sick right now, but none so far that he knew of that were having vision difficulties. Thus, he deflected her question gently with one of his own. “Do you mind if I put my hand on your shoulder, so I can guide you into the infirmary and out of the hallway?”

" This happens whenever i'm dehydrated... But only back in Colorado... Or when some kind of Telekinesis is used on me," she rubs her head and frowns,"... My dad's a Psychiatrist, my Mom's an ER doc... Sorry..."

The knowledge that this happened with some kind of frequency and wasn't just a sudden random event was a little reassuring. At the very least there should be a note of it on her medical file, and hopefully once she was rehydrated it would help. Though, why it got to the point where she was dehydrated enough for it to happen would need to be explored. “Okay. Well, I can get you into the infirmary and we can get you a drink, and then one of the doctors will be able to check you over and make sure it's nothing serious, hmm? What is your name? I'm Kieron.”

In truth, Kieron had absolutely no clue why the girl decided to mention about her parents being doctors. He tried very, very hard to ignore the fact that, since it was said immediately following his offer to put his hand on her shoulder to help her into the infirmary, it sounded an awful lot like a quiet threat. “Would you like me to help you get to one of the exam rooms?”

" Yeah, please... My name's Maud," she flashes a shakey smile, looking very apologetic... Almost as if suddenly being blind was a major faux pas or something

Kieron gave a small reassuring smile and gently placed a hand on the shoulder of the girl who introduced herself as Maud. “It’s good to meet you, Maud.” He then carefully guided her into the infirmary, to a chair in one of the empty exam rooms. “Okay, will you be all right sat here for a moment while I go and get you a drink?”

" Mhm.." She chirps as she sits down... There was that familiar sterile smell of clean tile that always surrounded doctor offices/infirmary-like places. Maud pressesher fingers together and purses her lips suddenly, this was an unfamiliar sickness... She wasn't quite sure what it was but it was definitely in her throat. What were those things..? Lymphnodes...? Maybe that had to do with this... (probably should've paid attention when her mom took her to work)
