They Don't Need to Understand

Vermont, her home, a place that held so much and yet so little all at once. Adrianna's flight had landed late last night from California and she still wasn't sure if she was happy to be back home or if she should have just stayed there to take care of Mags and maybe work at the diner. The thought sounded good to her, but she knew her mother would be disappointed in her choice if that's what she had done. Amelia expected big things for her daughter and following in her mother's footsteps wasn't one of them. Adrian was almost nineteen, was headed to her second year of college and wasn't pregnant, so far so good right? But she was also alone with hardly even a friend now because of her closest friend's ex. She missed Lani's birthday and she was pretty sure he hated her now because of it.
Now that she was back, with all of the stress piling back she decided that she needed a drink. Something to take her mind off of it. Back in California, Mags had helped her get through the year mark of her mother's death with some alcohol to at least numb the ache. It wasn't easy by any means. Reliving the scene in her mind of the last day she'd talked to her mother. Amelia had been doing so well...and then Adrian's father showed up and it all went downhill from there. But she was on the mend, in a much better mental state than she had been a year ago. She was fully intending on making an appointment with Sean to tell him about her progress once she was settled back into her life again.
Of course he wouldn't be too fond of what she planned for tonight, but he also didn't need to know. It was just for tonight, just to have some kind of fun for a night. It had been over a year since she'd had a good time without the burden of her problems hanging over her head. This was what she needed. What she fully intended on getting. Who knew? Maybe she'd meet someone new and hit it off. She needed more friends. Ellie was great, but having one friend was pathetic and Adrian hadn't always been like this. She wanted to go back. She wanted to be the fun-loving and happy girl that came into Hammel, not the depressed girl that left Hammel.
Walking into the Churchkey in a cute little black dress, Adrian picked a spot at the bar and waved at the bartender, one that had seen her around before, luckily. "Just a beer for now," She ordered with a faint smile.
