Can't Turn Back Now

Two days. She said one to two, but Carter decided to stick to two. After all, he didn't want to come across as overtly desperate - he never was. But he liked the notion of allowing her to set rules he'd so clearly comply to.

With the number in his phone, Carter stared at the screen for a few spare moments. He idly wondered what he might be getting himself into. It had been far too long since he'd caught the interest of a high school girl. Or a high school anyone. Now was hardly the time for reminiscing, but he did so all the same.

Without a second thought, he pressed the call button and held the device to his ear. The moment he heard a growingly familiar accent, he chimed in.

"Two days. At your request."

Karalie pushed the car into park, reaching for her coffee and then her phone.  A missed call from her mother.  She'd heard the phone ringing before, but it had been tucked away in her purse and she couldn't find it while she was driving, not without pulling her eyes from the road and crashing her brand new car wasn't what she wanted to do.  She knew her mother wanted tot talk about college again, and she just wasn't in the mood to have that conversation anymore.  She'd go where she would go and that was that.

When the phone rang again she audibly growled.  "Gimme uh break, woman." She grumbled, lifting her iphone and looking at the unknown number.  It wasn't an 800 number so she knew it wasn't a bill collector.  Her stomach did a strange sort of flip in the hopes that maybe, just maybe, it was Carter.  Had he actually called?

"Hello?" She drawled into the phone, the tingly sensation in her stomach spreading as she heard the boy speak.  Two days.  She'd requested two days and he'd actually listened!  "Uh man of his word. How honorable." She teased, not really knowing the best way to be flirty without sounding desperate.  Act cool, Kara! "What're ya'll up to?"

Carter couldn't help the short, amused chuckle he gave to the device at his ear. A man to his word to the absolute best of his ability. Precise in every moment he could be so cleverly tactful in.

Had she waited? He had to wonder if she waited. But it wasn't right to ask.

At least, not yet.

"I'm on the college campus; the University of Vermont. Sorting out classes schedules for next week." Honestly, it'd been a nice break, but he was far more invested in returning to classes. "What about you? Have you braved the cold again yet?"

Even his chuckle was sexy.  She smiled to herself in the car, a chill tingling up her spine.  

"I braved th'cold today." She admitted.  "Actually, I still am." She looked down at the coffee, wondering if he was about to ask her to go grab a cup.  That would be something.  "Treatin' myself since I've been stuck inside, an' th'snows finally meltin' uh bit.  May as well get out b'fore we get another foot, yah know?"

A light hum passed Carter's lips at the response that she'd left the school's grounds. He immediately wondered if he should have given her his number at the same time; a quick call before she'd left and he might have been able to meet her.

No matter. There was still a way to make up for such a potential downfall. "It's good to know you're not stuck in your room all day." Though in his experience, there was always a purpose to that, and it rarely involved avoiding the weather.

"So you're treating yourself?" He asked, "To what?"

She agreed with a short "Mhm." nodding her head though he couldn't see.  It was always good to get out of her room, especially with the looming threat her roommate had left with her.  The less she was in the room, the less likely she would be to witness their dirty sins.

"Well.."  She looked back down at her coffee, deciding it would be the one thing she'd leave out.  "I got uh new sweater an' some boots. Then I relaxed with uh mani/pedi."  It was the first manicure she'd had since she was a young girl.  Since her retrocognition developed she'd steered clear of getting her nails done for fear of the memories, but she'd been doing better with her control and thought it was time to try them out again.  The amount of memories absorbed were minimal, and even then they weren't terrible; boring stuff that didn't weigh on her mentally.  It was a good trip.  "Shame ya'll can't see it."

Instinctively, Carter found himself nodding his head despite the fact that no one could see him. Steps through the campus grounds were incredibly familiar by now, even with his time away. Not long now and he'd be within the proximity of his car.

Still, he listened. The listed off things this girl had done today were obvious insights into the person she was, but he still found himself wanting to know more. There was a lot more to learn from being face to face. "Such a shame." He agreed easily, without an ounce of negative convictions from his tone. Because really, it was.

"All on your own today?"

Karalie bit her bottom lip as he agreed and then nodded her head, still going through all the physical motions of talking to someone even though they were on the phone.  "For now." She all but purred.  "I'm meetin' uh friend later for uh bit.  What about'chu?" She asked, holding her hands out to admire the freshly gelled nails.  "What're ya'll doin' aftuh this schedule sortin' business?"

As she spoke of meeting up with someone later, Carter procured his keys from his back pocket, thumb pressing into the button to unlock it. His hand momentarily stalled on the handle; perhaps today wasn't the best time to ask to join her?

"No immediate plans." He admitted, idly rolling his shoulders. He'd thought of trying to call Dom, but the idea quickly faded from his mind. Lately his brother seemed to lost. "How much time do you have? It'd be a shame to be so close and not actually see each other, don't you think?"

Her heart flipped in her chest, jumping up into her throat as he basically asked for them to meet up. She immediately pulled the mirror down the see the state of her hair and makeup. Fortunately she kept a spare makeup bag in her purse for just such occasions. One never knew when they'd need to get fixed up last second, and with the drama going on in her life, she definitely needed to fix up plenty. Crying was something she'd done quite a bit of lately, but not today. No, today she'd fix herself up for a boy.

"'Bout four hours." Was that enough time? If she met him now.. Did he want to meet up right now? Karalie wondered if she should cancel her plans. No, she didn't want to look desperate or needy. She had to keep her cool. "Didja have somethin' in mind?"

Drawing the car door open, Carter moved into the seat with ease; subtle teal-green shades to the interior of the expensive car someone of his age likely shouldn't have been driving. But when one parent offers an extravagant vehicle for one's birthday, who can possibly resist it?

Four hours. Plenty of time, really.

"Coffee? I know a place." He replied. The same place he always went; despite the sub-par tones to their coffee on the palate of a refined upper, it was the best he could do in his surroundings, "You can take that time and tell me all about yourself."

Coffee.  Karalie's dark eyes landed on her cup and she internally laughed.  At least she'd only drank half of this one.  A fresh one with some beautiful eye candy wouldn't be the end of the world, especially since said eye candy seemed to be interested.

"I s'pose since I've got nothin' better tuh do." There was a teasing in her tone so he knew she wasn't really being serious, since of course she wasn't.  "Where can I meetcha?"

Key in the ignition, now, and Carter turned it to ignite the engine before him. The two were hardly far from each other; a half an hour drive and he'd be back in Pilot Ridge, traffic pending.

He laughed again as she spoke, lightly against the teasing quality of her tone. Certain things couldn't be helped.

"The Velvet-Tone." He replied, sure a majority of people knew where it was. Positive he didn't need to give any more direction than that. "I'm still out in Burlington, but it won't take long to get back. I'll see you soon."

She'd been there and knew where it was. She gave a sort of nod, her stomach squirming again with the butterflies fluttering inside. "I'll see yah soon." She agreed before hanging up. Karalie immediately saved the boys number in her contacts before pulling her visor down again to look at her makeup. She had some serious touching up to do!
