Time Warp: A New Chapter (XJ)

Today had proven to be a nostalgic day. It was funny how developments for the future could make one reflect on the past and everything that had led to that moment. Today for Talia as she set about preparing a surprise for Xavier and Jaxon, she found herself thinking back to their early years. Back when Xavier and she were first dating and Jaxon had quite frankly loathed her. It was still made her laugh a little to think of how things had begun with them. 

In the end though she had fallen for both brothers and while their relationship might be confusing to some - okay, most - they were happy. They'd been married for just over 2 years now. But they'd also been trying to start a family for over a year of that time frame and hadn't had any success. It was disheartening to say the least. 

Today she had taken a sick day though and seen the doctor. She hadn't talk Xavier or Jaxon about it though, not wanting to disappoint them if the home test had been wrong this time too. It was hard for her to keep such a secret though, especially from them. 

Of course, the news she had to share when they got home would make it all worth it. 

She'd spent the rest of the day preparing a surprise to tell them the good news, if only to keep herself from calling them right away. Still, the wait would be worth it. She wanted it to be as perfect as possible. 

Her eyes glanced at the clock, practically bouncing as she realized that he should be coming home any moment. Of course, as far as either of them knew, it was just an ordinary day. They didn't know their life was about to change, and that was precisely the fun of a surprise.

Another ordinary day for the less than ordinary pair of brothers - the kids were still giving Jaxon a hard time and ragging on Xavier like kids did, and the work day was as it always been in the February months. Cold, coffee filled, and AC free. There wasn't much reminiscing in terms of what had been for Xavier, but that wasn't the same for Jaxon.

To him, the younger soul continued to be amazed that every night he would come home to a lovely wife that not five years ago he absolutely hated. Well, at the time he figured he hated her because there was nothing else to call the pain he was feeling in the thought that he was losing his brother. Truth be told their relationship had always been a unique on considering the superficial complications, but in the end he allowed himself to let go of the fear of losing Xavier and found that to take it's place was a love for the woman who was supposedly trying to take him away.

Mrs. Talia Wright - The name sounding lovely whenever either of them had heard it.

Xavier, much like his brother, held a substantial amount of adoration to the woman that they had proposed to and married. Talia had taught him quite a bit about life and how it wasn't worth living to please other people simply for approval; she taught him that being himself had to be the most fitting qualities for him to have. There was also a new found tenderness to his personality that appeared when Xavier had realized he loved her, of which he had never been able to properly thank her for.

Maybe he'd do that tonight.

But in terms of control, it wasn't his 'turn' to take them both home and kiss their wife first. Jaxon was in control of it all, and while Xavier tried to scam him out of it, the younger soul still had the reigns. Such is life for the hybrid pair, but it was like that every day. It was decided that morning who did what, much like it always had been.

Upon opening up the door to the apartment, Jaxon moved about on his usual routine to hang up the keys, place his coat in the appropriate place, and then moved towards the room to change. Another normal evening home, or so he thought.

Talia heard the door close and immediately she was grinning. She could hardly wait to share the news with him. She absently wondered which of the brothers would be in control, but it didn't really matter - this was news she was eager to share with both of them.

As she entered the main living area, she saw him hanging up his keys and then his coat. So it was Jaxon. That worked even more favorably if there was such a thing. Still, for the moment, she simply went to greet him.

"Hey hun," she said with a smile before greeting him with a kiss and a short embrace. "How was your day?" she added, more out of habit than anything. It was taking all of her self control to act normal at this point. More than anything, she just wanted to blurt out the news, but she forced herself to stay calm and focus on the matter at hand.

"I know you just got home, but before you change, can I borrow you for a sec?" she asked finally, offering a pleading look. "I've been working on a new painting and I really want to know what you think of it." He was used to such requests - after all, art was one of the things that had allowed them to finally bond - and her impatience was something both brothers were more than accustomed to.

Talia took his hand in hers and led him to the studio they shared. Her easel was set up facing the door, though a canvas sheet had been thrown over it to hide the painting. As they entered the room, she spun to face him, moving back to stand beside the easel. "Okay, now, when I show you, I want to know your honest opinion, okay? The first thing that comes to mind," she emphasized. With that, she pulled off the sheet, revealing the painting to him, watching eagerly for his reaction.

Normally Talia allowed Jaxon to complete his 'home ritual' before coming in for a kiss as she did then, so in the back of his mind the younger soul was immediately wondering what the catch of whatever it is she was hinting at.

Xavier, too, was a bit suspicious of what her intentions were, knowing full well that the girl was, while still demanding, respected Jaxon's tradition and couldn't help but see that her grin was oddly suspicious. Excited, yes, but suspicious all the same.

Either way, Jaxon pulled the woman in momentarily for the kiss she gave him, his arm snaking around her waist and pulling her in for another. Out of everything that had happened over the past few years and how everything began, the satisfaction only grew each time he felt her pressed against him.

'You'll get your turn'.

"Long and trying," Jaxon hummed, reluctant to pull away from his wife as she did, but it didn't seem like he was done with her at that point. Her words, quick fired and excited, indicated only further that that was the case. His fingers interlaced with her own, "And when have I ever been anything but?" He said, amused.

What is she hiding?

'I have no clue, Xav. But I'm sure we're going to find out.'

However, out of everything that he was expecting to see under that cover was not what he did. Numerous warm colors converge into a center, an outline of a heart surrounding two small footprints with the words "Welcome Baby Wright" on the outside. For a moment it all didn't register in his head.

"Wha- Talia, what is this?" The younger soul's voice was distant as his gaze shifted from the painting to his wife, and then momentarily her stomach.

Jaxon, that's not what I think it is.

'Xavier... I- I don't know. Are we?'

Are we?

"Talia, are you pregnant?"

Because after a year and a half and no luck, the two men had almost given up hope for children any time even remotely soon, though they couldn't bring themselves to tell her. Plus, between the two of them, the experience was always enjoyable, no doubt, but exhausting all the same. And to add to that, pretty damn disheartening. The idea of fatherhood had never crossed their minds, from what they had discussed, but once it had been suggested, they both seemed to get on board. Xavier a bit more hesitant than Jaxon, but once he warmed up to the idea, there had been no going back.

Talia had melted eagerly into her husbands kiss as he pulled her close, but even that wasn't enough to distract her. Besides, she knew that if she didn't show him soon she wouldn't be able to stop herself from blurting it out. She was sure that he'd be happy either way, but what she had in store would be so much better, she was sure. She wanted it to be a memorable moment after all.

"Aw, I'm sorry to hear that," she said when he described his day as long and trying. "I'll have to do something about that," she added with a small grin. Her hand found his and she led him to their studio, trying to contain her excitement all the while. She couldn't help but feel confident that her surprise would do just the trick. She laughed though at his response when she asked him to be totally honest. "Alright, you got me there," she agreed.

She pulled away the sheet then, revealing the painting and watching his face intently, biting back her own grin. There was a momentary delay before his gaze shifted from the canvas to her as he stammered his question, and finally a beaming smile spread across her lips. "Exactly what it looks like," she answered, watching as she could see the information clicking in his mind as his gaze shifted downwards to her stomach.

Talia couldn't contain it any longer as he asked, finally, if she was pregnant. She nodded fervently, bouncing a little on the balls of her feet. "Yes! I am!" If it were possible, her grin seemed to grow wider, or at least brighter. "You're going to be a father," she added, her voice soft but filled with joy. She hoped he was as happy as she was. They had been trying for so long after all...

She paused only a moment perhaps before asking the question on her mind. "So what are you thinking?"

Xavier was quiet in the back of their mind, attempting to come to grips with the situation at hand. The only thing that was outwardly expressed in that moment was the happiness that was radiating between each of the two souls, the excitement merging into the formation of a genuine grin on Jaxon's face.

In that moment, the distance between them was more than the younger soul felt was appropriate; in response to that feeling, the man stepped forward, placing mere inches between her and himself, one hand on her cheek, and the other slipped underneath the fabric of her shirt. The familiar feeling of her skin against his fingertips felt oh so foreign, knowing that there was now something more to be taking up that petite frame. Someone more.

He dipped his head only slightly, her height being incredibly beneficial in that moment simply because it took less time to reach her and gave him more time to press his lips to her own, ensuring it continued for moments longer than it should have. Xavier, while slightly jealous in the background, was alright with the whole ordeal considering he, too, enjoyed the feeling, despite the fact that he was not the one to initiate it.

Upon pulling back, he offered only a sliver of distance, "I'm thinking," He whispered, voice low as he held onto his wife, his fingers curling ever so slightly against her stomach, "How wonderful of a mother you will be. And how I'm still slightly in disbelief. We've tried for so long."

Jaxon began to smile and she felt her heart lift in that moment, that one small thing enough to assure her that he was as happy as she was about the news. Not that she had much time to react as he was moving forward to close the distance between them, one hand resting on her cheek and the other sliding under her shirt to press to her stomach. There was no sign of the life within her body, yet the knowledge still carried a certain effect.

His lips found hers with practiced ease and her hands snaked up his chest to cup his face, savoring the kiss they shared. It was a kiss of celebration and rejoicing. It was tempting to simply relish that feeling forever, but after a long moment, he pulled back, though only slightly. Talia was more than content with this closeness between them, and the moment their lips parted, that smile had returned to grace her lips.

As he spoke, his voice was a low whisper, but his words tugged at her heartstrings and brought tears to her eyes. "I know, darling. I still can't quite believe it's finally happening," she admitted. That was the very reason she had waiting for the doctor to confirm it before saying anything to him. Honestly, she hadn't even begun worrying about what she would be like as a mother, but his faith in her ability still meant everything to her. "You'll be an amazing father, you know," she added softly. "Both of you." She didn't know if Xavier was awake and listening, but she didn't want to exclude either of them from this.

She moved her hand so that it pressed to his which rested on her stomach. Talia simply held it there for a moment, soaking in the moment. When she spoke, her voice was filled with awe and disbelif. "We're going to be parents." Somehow, no matter how many times she said it, it hadn't fully sunk in. Yet, for all the waiting, this moment was every bit worth it.

It was almost getting to the point where the pair had nearly decided to ask to take a break, especially considering with their idea of moving house - a process that could take well over a year or two to even find the perfect home, what with the housing market in Pilot Ridge, and hell, even in Burlington.

However, all of that insecurity immediately faded into the background of all the thoughts, the primary contributor to the melting pot that was the men's minds was a simple word - parents. As she said, they were going to be parents. Fathers. Xavier and himself. Fathers. Of a child.

"I would speak for Xavier, but he's very quiet." He breathed, but added a clarification before truly continuing with what he cared to say. "His joy is overwhelming, I promise you that. " But it was true - there weren't many times the man was rendered speechless, but this had.

I... I just can't believe it. After so long, and it's finally happening. Fuck, Jax. I /never/ thought this would happen to us, and I'm so fucking grateful.

'It is. You know, I wonder who did it.'

What kind of question is that? You know it was me.

'Well there's no way to be sure, anyway. Mi DNA es su DNA, or whatever.'

It was me,

To that, Jaxon visibly laughed, despite the fact that he had been speaking to Talia not any more than two seconds prior. She was used to that, however, considering the length in which she had known either of them. It was almost sad that she couldn't hear their conversations, but instead had to deal with wondering. In that moment, though, she wouldn't be wondering for long.

His hand moved from her stomach rather reluctantly, and instead traced his across her torso to lie on her hip, the other shortly following suit. It was then that he pulled her even closer, a half smile then evening out his features.

"I believe we should celebrate," A simple suggestion, one he emphasized with a simple quirk of his brow, "A wine glass of grape juice, some nice lighting, delicious food." He pressed his lips against her own, before traveling to her cheek, and the to the curve of her neck, "But I still have yet to change. Maybe you can," Another kiss against her skin, "help me with that, love?"

And in that moment, Xavier seemed to fade out, but not before Jaxon let him know that he would get Talia soon enough, but he just couldn't give her up on that night. Not now. Not when it was so crucial.

Xavier understood, and then he was gone.

Talia's smile faltered, just for a moment, as Jaxon said that Xavier had fallen quiet. She knew that he had been a little more hesitant about the concept of fatherhood, but he had come around to it, hadn't he? But then Jaxon clarified, and she breathed a sigh of relief. "Oh, good." She understood being overwhelmed. That had been her for the better part of the day after all.

Jaxon fell quiet for a moment before suddenly laughing. She had long ago grown used to such occurrences though. Still, she often found herself wishing she could hear both sides of their conversations, especially at times like this.

His hand shifted and her own fell away. It wasn't a moment later though that he was pulling her closer and she couldn't help but smirk as the mood shifted. Her arms draped around his neck as she listened to his proposal eagerly. "That's quite a celebration," she purred softly, a small smile tugging at the corners of her lips. Jaxon's lips pressed lightly to hers before shifting to her cheek and then her neck - his touch had her breath catching in her throat. His words made her shiver in anticipation even as her body seemed to be wilting against him.

"I suppose I could be of some assistance," she managed to murmur with a smirk.

Xavier wasn't always the most hesitant, and really, when it came to most activities and events, it was Jaxon's hesitance that allowed the pair to see reason. But when it came down to life altering decisions such as having a kid, it seemed as though Xavier was the one to keep Jaxon level headed. That being said, he thought of the options and Xavier learned to love the idea, because neither Jaxon nor Talia would have moved forward without his utmost excitement for the whole ordeal. "We wouldn't have gotten this far if he didn't want this."

This wasn't a girl that might not work out this time. This was life.

The formal way in which Jaxon spoke was only to hold this gentleman like air to him, one he was hoping would make him appear smooth as well as charming. From her reaction he could tell that it was working, or at least she was humoring him. Either way, the younger soul couldn't help but lean into every word she spoke, every shaking breath she breathed as his lips met her skin. It was almost instinctual then as his hands traveled further and he shifted. In that shift, he picked her up ensuring she was steadied in his arms, his wife laying bridal style as he shifted toward the bedroom, "I was hoping you'd say that." He said as he shut the door with a simple kick of the door.

Fade to black

And when Jaxon turned to find his wife beside him, and knowing full well that there was no intent behind loving her except, well, exactly that. There was no pressure behind it, no pressure for pregnancy or any of that. Simply just to make his wife feel as loved as she was, making her feel as wanted as she was.

He would do anything for her at a moments notice - absolutely anything.
