Ket was exhausted. She had never quite been able to get the hang of Tuesday’s, and that was something that seemed to be unchanging as she got older. For some reason the day always seemed to drag to a ridiculous degree no matter how busy she tried to keep herself. Today had been no different. The cold and damp of February meant the petting zoo where she worked was quieter than at many other times of the year, but there were still animals to clean out and feed. Maintenance jobs that were easier to do now than they would be in the hustle and bustle of summer were also being done, but it was still quiet overall. The bakery was also quieter now, the mad rush of Christmas cakes over and the one for Easter cakes yet to begin. However, there was a steady stream of petting zoo visitors and birthday cake orders keeping her busy (and employed), so for that at least she was grateful.
As the day came to a close Ket tidied up the bakery before doing a last sweep-check of the animals with Nolan. Everyone and everything was in its place, and so she departed from work to head back to her apartment in the town itself. As always though, she was armed with a box of cupcakes, muffins, brownies and other edible treats that hadn’t sold during the day and would be otherwise thrown away. Always one to detest waste, Ket had picked out a few things for herself before boxing the others away to be distributed around town.
After arriving at her house and feeding the cat, Ket dressed up in a heavy winter coat before heading out with the box full of treats, heading towards an area where she knew a couple of homeless guys hung out. The box was heavy and awkward and she was visibly struggling, until she tripped on the edge of the sidewalk and only just about avoided falling flat on her face. “Shit!” Seeing someone walking on the other side of the road, she brushed her red hair back behind her ear before calling out to them. “Hey! Could you help me a sec, please? I need a hand carrying this down to the other end of the block, to near the bridge.”
