Summer was over. It was a depressing reality for Nica, who found herself back in the school again. This should have been her last year, her senior year, but the unfortunate truth was the Australian would be back here again next year. And possibly the year after that. A late manifestation on top of the curriculum change was enough to set her back one, possibly two years. Apparently it was in the Serrano namesake to take a little extra time.
She was doing okay, though. No failed classes. When she applied herself, Nica could do the work with ease. But that involved effort and interest and concentration, a delicate balance to maintain. Academic classes weren't too terrible.
One thing was for certain though; Nica was not looking forward to standing in the cold gymnasium and participating in team sports again. She adjusted her shorts discreetly, standing off to the side from the rest of her peers. Hair tied back, she looked the part to participate. Ready to run around and kick a ball or something.
Nica kept quiet, green eyes scanning the gym in front of her. Everyone was running around, laughing and enjoying themselves. Her only thought was how. She began picking at the chipped nail polish on her fingers, thinking about the rest of the day and wondering if she could get away with manipulating time so gym class would end. Then, a ball rolled to her feet. The gentle nudge was enough to make Nica look up to see a student run towards her.
"Need this?" She asked, motioning with her head towards the ball at her feet.
