Well, This is Uncomfortable... (Devyn)

It was Valentine's Day, a day that, in the past, Xun had hardly even acknowledged because he had never had any reason to.  He didn't hate it, didn't love it - he was completely neutral about the holiday apart from the occasional good deals on foods.  He'd never had anyone to spend it with, which he had never been bitter about, because romance wasn't something he thought about a lot.

This year was definitely different.  Well.... Sort of.  He did have someone he was romantically involved with (they had never talked about being in a relationship, and Xun was fine with that), but they (mostly Dev) were too nervous yet to keep it anything but a secret from most of the world.  Xun didn't mind - he didn't want to make the younger boy uncomfortable, and he was happy with how things had been going.  More than happy, really.  More like elated.

He wanted to spend the holiday with Devyn, but understood that they couldn't really go on an obvious date without seeming suspicious.  So... They went on a friend date.  A very chaste, no-touching, platonic outing that made them look like two single guys just going out and spending some time with each other because they didn't have a significant other to go out with.  One might be able to notice something strange about the looks and smiles that Xun sent to the shorter boy, but he tried to keep his feelings hidden as he ordered a green boba tea and stood to the side as he waited for their orders to be filled.  

Xun had his dark contacts in, as they were in public, but they still held the same intensity that they always did as he looked over at Devyn.  "Is there anywhere else you would like to go today?" he asked, trying to seem casual.  "We could see if there are any sales going on at the sporting goods store."

It wasn't a date. That was what they had agreed on, they were just friends out in town...friends that had seen each other naked multiple time but friends nonetheless. Devyn was willing to admit that he was nervous about this while he wanted nothing but to spend more and more time with the older boy it made him feel a bit queasy to think about someone figuring out their act.

Even then it still wouldn't be a date though would it?... After all they weren't dating. Odd considering how much they liked each other and had even verbally told each other something along those lines. That was pretty much entirely Devyn's fault though, he wasn't ready to let people know and it was hardly fair to ask someone out only to tell them to keep it a secret.

Not that he was even one hundred percent sure Xun would even want to date him, he knew Xun still held a lot of curiosity about sexuality and the like and though they answered some questions of his curiosity Devyn hardly felt qualified to do more than they had at this point.

He stood rather awkwardly next to Xun, very much overachieving in his attempt to play cool and almost had to laugh at himself. Devyn had never been particularly bitter about spending the holiday on his own, after all it was partly of his own doing so it was a waste of time to be upset about it in that way. What was frustrating however was that he was cowardly enough to agree to a platonic 'outing' with the guy he had essentially roped into a friends with benefits arrangement. The benefits were great, but still the frustration remained.

"What do you suggest?" he asked with a nervous smile, unfamiliar with bubble tea and what he might like, trusting Xun knew his tastes pretty well by now. Unconsciously he returned one of Xun's endearing looks, used to having privacy when they were together, though he quickly remembered the very public setting they were in and looking away.

"U-um," he stuttered a bit sheepishly, embarrassed by his own slip up, "That sounds good, we can check out a few stores, catch a movie if you want?"

Xun really did like Dev, a lot. But that meant that he just wanted to spend time with the boy, getting to know him and what he was into, rather than trying to go out and brag to the world that they were sort of seeing each other. So despite the younger boy’s worries, Xun was really okay with their set-up, and likely wouldn’t pressure Devyn to change anything about it for a good long while, if ever. As long as they were both happy, then that’s all that mattered, right?

Maybe someday he would be sad that they couldn’t hold hands in public, but at the given time, it wasn’t an issue. Xun would just be clingy when they did get back to the privacy of their rooms.

The Chinese boy seemed better able to make himself seem casual and unbothered, but he’d learned over the years how to keep his expression neutral…. Well, except for when he actually looked at Devyn, then all that seemed to be a lot harder to do. Especially when Dev looked at him in the same way… Xun had to remind himself to keep his eyes averted for the most part. “Mm…. I think you would like the peach or mango,” he suggested, since he did have a pretty good understanding of what Devyn liked. “Almost all of them are good, though, I think. You have not had bubble tea before?” Xun came by here at least once or twice a week – the tea was a staple in his diet as much as shrimp chips were. “We will have to come by here more often if you like it.” He shot the shorter boy a smile, trying not to look overly fond and probably failing.

Especially as he became aware of Dev’s own self-consciousness. Xun stuck his hands in his pockets and stared up unseeing at the menus. “That sounds good to me too,” he agreed with a nod. Shopping… That wouldn’t be too date-like, right? And no one would be paying attention to them in a movie theater… probably. Xun thanked the barista as he got his tea and went to sit by a window at a tiny table for two. As he sipped at his straw, he rose a brow curiously over at Devyn. “What do you think? Do you like it?”
