"Three day weekend, three day weekend!! Guess who has a three day weekend!!" Ginny chirped, tumbling into her father's office without bothering to knock. She dropped her book-bag unceremoniously beside his desk and perched herself on the edge of his desk, pushing his name plate out of her way so she wouldn't poke herself.
"Yep, that's right, meeeeeee!!" She answered her own question, as if she hadn't already discussed her arrival with him prior to driving down. She only had one class on Monday and her teacher had canceled, which had meant an (almost) last minute decision to drive to Pilots Ridge with her friend Annie. It was so nice to have met someone else who had family at Hammel; that meant she didn't have to drive by herself. She could have driven alone, but she felt safer having someone else in the car with her. After all, if she blew out a tire or even had to stop for gas it was better not to be a solitary girl; she didn't want to present an easy target if she could help it.
"Sooooooo!!" She peered over the desk in an attempt to see what he was working on, although she knew the chances were slim that she would understand what he was doing without an explanation."What're you doing? Is it secret? Is it important? Can you procrastinate so we can go get pancakes? I'm staaaaarving and Annie wasn't hungry, she went straight to see her sis. Oh, hey, speaking of, guess what! Annie is teaching me sign language! Look, look!!!"
She squinted in concentration as she showed off her new skills. "Hi...my...name....is....Ginny!" She spoke aloud as she signed her greeting. "See??" She bounced eagerly, excited to share her new skill. "Isn't that cool??"
