[Annaleigh Valentine]

Anna felt relief flush over her after he agreed that she wasn’t after any of his things or money. She didn’t like people thinking something of her that wasn’t right. That’s the reason she wanted him to know that she wasn’t after his money or whatever he could give her. When he said that she just looked at him with a face that said to him ‘not funny’ without her having to say anything. She couldn’t change who she was, no one could.

She didn’t actually know that he was amused or interested by her. Anna was just being herself, slightly stubborn and kept in her ways, only bitchy when she was extremely tired, sweet and kind when you talked to her normally, never giving her opinion unless she had to. Anna was a nice person, and she didn’t change her face for anyone, granted maybe she was a bit nicer or more bubbly to one person if she knew that person better, but apart from that she never two faced and never spoke lies. She was genuine about all but her family.

When he asked what made her think that Anna just chuckled to herself and glanced back. “I dunno I just, I know how people think when it comes to something like this, people think I’m taking things the wrong way.” She said simply. She already knew that she was taking it the wrong way but she didn’t care enough to change habits.

After Anna had pulled on the outfit (she’d gone pretty quickly so that she wouldn’t keep Zac waiting) she walked out to see Zac sitting there asleep. She couldn’t help but feel a bit of jealousy inside her, but she shook her head and smiled shrugging. Should she leave? Anna didn’t want to wake him, but what could she do? Would he wake by himself? Would he be angry if she woke him? Sighing she lightly tapped his shoulder. “Zac? If you’re tired we don’t need to do the coffee thing, I don’t mind honestly.” She said in a soft voice, not wanting to go too loud to wake him fully. That wouldn’t be nice would it?

Zac almost jumped up when Anneleigh tapped his shoulder. How in the world did he fall asleep? Annaleigh didn’t take that much time to change right? Did he unknowingly put sleeping pills or something in his drink? Or were Horus’ powers improving already and he can now somehow put people to sleep by simply touching the other person’s stuff and leaving a trace of some sort in there? That he used, or simply touched, Zac’s water bottle (which was clearly labeled as his, apparently) then boom, instant drowsiness? Zac was so embarrassed that his mind was processing a million thoughts in just a fraction of a second (he’d surely give a telepath a headache without even knowing). And yes, all these thoughts somehow blame Horus for his unexpected slumber. Poor child.

“No, no. It’s nothing really,” he mumbled, easily masking his embarrassed blush with a smile. He rubbed his eyes and shook his head, hoping to wake his whole body up already. He grabbed the bottle from the side table and took a quick sip before turning back to Annaleigh with a grin. “There, all done,” he beamed, “I don’t know what’s gotten in to me really. I mean, this is the first time I’ve actually fallen asleep all of a sudden for the past, what, two or three years?”

“Funny, just earlier it was you who fell asleep when I went to the room. Now, it was you who found me sleeping soundly in this couch after you went inside the room. Guess the world is round after all.” Unlike other normal flops Zac could make (yes, apparently anything that causes a stain on his supposed chic-image was a mistake), he couldn’t shrug his snoozing off as something that didn’t happen. For example, when he makes a mistake in identifying someone, he’d say he was just teasing them. Or when he makes a wrong conclusion, he’d say he was just joking. But now, he couldn’t say that he was just pulling a prank on Annaleigh. Unfortunately for Zac, he’d have to live with the ‘shame’ of sleeping on someone.

“Nope, nope, we’re going. Zac never breaks his promises.” A cliché line, also a very obvious lie. In fact, Zac may have broken more promises in a year than Annaleigh in her lifetime. His promise not to ‘bully’ new kids, not to see people as servants, not to be bratty, not to spend too much on clothes – gosh, if Zac never breaks his promises, he’d be a whole new person right now. He stood up and started walking towards the door, grabbing his keys, wallet and umbrella on the way. “You can just place your went clothes near that vanity mirror over there. I’ll have it cleaned and dried to you in a few days,” he said, pointing to the desk a little to Anna’s right. “Come now, I think it’s still raining hard outside.”

Then it occurred to him that Anna hasn’t said a word about his room yet. She did go in one of his room-slash-closet, right? Why did she have nothing to say about it? “I do hope you didn’t find the room too messy. I haven’t even sorted out my purchases from last week,” he said with a fake blush. Truly, Zac was anything but subtle.

When Zac jumped, Anna jumped as well. She hadn’t meant to jump and she could tell that Zac was surprised that he’d fallen asleep. Pressing her lips together, Anna tried not to laugh a bit. She smiled and shrugged. “Don’t worry, people fall asleep all the time.” Mostly Anna did it a lot. She didn’t find it funny as in she’d tease him about it. People fell asleep, it’s what happened.

She frowned when he said about the world going round. Shrugging she smiled lightly. “Yeah, maybe I put my tiredness onto you.” She joked. Of course she couldn’t but she was trying to be light hearted about this. How else do you sort things out right? It was obvious that Zac was slightly embarrassed about this, Anna didn’t mind. She’d sat in a similar seat and she knew how comfy they were to fall asleep on.

Smiling Anna kept quiet when he said he never broke promises. Everyone broke promises, even if it wasn’t intentional. But she wasn’t going to say that, she’d just let him think she believed him. Pushing her hair back again she shook her head. “Uhm you don’t need to do that really, if you have a plastic bag, I’ll just take them to my dorm and wash them later.” She said hoping that he wouldn’t press her to leave them.

When he said about his room and how he hoped she didn’t find it messy, Anna shrugged. “I’m sorry I didn’t take much notice, I tried to get out quickly.” She said. “But it did seem as though you had a lot of clothes and stuff in there.” She knew what he wanted to hear, she just didn’t really think she should tell him everything that he wanted to hear.

Zac didn’t know why he feels so embarrassed about the whole thing. Like he’d die if people would know he accidentally fell asleep. Maybe because he’s trying to impress Annaleigh, and sleeping while she’s excused herself isn’t really a plus point. Or maybe because he laughed at her (albeit on the inside) a while ago when she fell asleep, and now karma’s gotten into him. Nonetheless, it’ll do him good now that Annaleigh’s decided she won’t tease Zac about it. (Unfortunately, Zac is not a mind-reader, meaning he can’t read Anna’s good intentions, which in turn will mean he’ll continue or even upgrade his bragging to hopefully erased Anna’s memory of his slumber. Sorry Anna).

“Haha. Maybe you did. If yawns are contagious, what’s not the say that tiredness isn’t?” he said lightheartedly. He knows that what he said makes no sense, but in the spirit of erasing his flop, why not. “Or maybe, you’ve developed a new power. You can induce sleep on people now. Makes sense, don’t you think? Inducing people to sleep so you can walk into their dreams,” he laughed, finding the notion funny yet at the same time useful.

“Are you serious? I really wouldn’t mind,” he asked Annaleigh, but seeing her determined face (and remembering their past argument about him treating her out whenever he can), he yielded. Sort of. “Fine, I’ll try to look for one,” he chuckled and quickly went inside the room, not even letting the door close as he knows exactly what he’ll bring her.

Without a second to spare (in fear that she again might sleep, once again starting their cycle), he walked out of the room with a red handbag on his side. “Here’s the plastic bag,” he said, handing her a white plastic bag, “And since we’re going out, I figured you’d want to place it somewhere more presentable, for the moment.” He gave Anneleigh a wink as he handed her the bag. Zac thinks plastic bags are atrocious (and not environmentally friendly to beat), hence he wouldn’t want to be seen with one. And again, giving her a designer bag means he can once again brag. “My apologies, that one’s from the summer-spring collection. I have yet to bring one from the winter-fall collection so yeah.”

He couldn’t believe she didn’t take note of his extensive collection. My gosh. Maybe he did send her to Horus’ room. “Ahh yeah, I do have a tendency to be an impulsive shopper at times,” he chuckled, as if a bit embarrassed about the whole thing, complete with the innocent-neck-rub gesture.

She smiled as he spoke about how it could be like yawns, contagious. He seemed genuinely embarrassed. Anna could understand why, she didn’t like falling asleep on people. She shook her head and laughed slightly when he said about a new power. “That would be interesting, though I doubt it’s true.” She said. Anna was ok with her own powers (not really but she tried to be) and she wouldn’t actually like it if she had another ability.

Anna didn’t need to say anything about the washing & drying of her clothes before he caved. She was actually surprised that he’d just given up, or had he? When he came back she took the plastic bag and stuffed her things in quickly. Then when he handed her the handbag Anna’s eyes went wide. “No I don’t need a bag like that it’s fine.” She said slowly not going to take it. It looked expensive and Anna was not going to take anything else from this guy.

Once again he began to brag (and apologise) about how it was the old collection or whatever. “A plastic bag is fine for me.” She said as she held onto it tightly. Anna did not want to take that bag, though it was really pretty, it seemed really expensive and she had already told him she didn’t want to take anything. The guy didn’t seem to be able to understand this. When he said about being an impulsive shopper she shrugged. “I’m like that when I’m in a thrift store and have some spare money.” She said. Totally different but pretty similar at the same time. Of course Anna’s idea of some spare money was about fifty bucks whereas she was sure that was pocket change for Zac.

“Well then, I’d be ecstatic if it is,” he chuckled. Zac was definitely embarrassed about the whole sleeping scenario and was extremely delighted that Anna’s not pushing it and instead riding along his supposed distraction. “I mean, they seem to be fairly related, and who doesn’t want a power upgrade? I know I do,” he added, “I’d do anything to be able to tap into reptiles, amphibians, birds, insects and other animals, no matter how creepy and slimy they are.” Zac was never one to divulge to just anyone that his powers had limits, seeing how he sees his limits as apparent weakness on his part, so him telling Annaleigh that was really surprising (he does tell people that he’s an animal mimic, and at times a mammal mimic, but aside from people not getting what he can do, he usually assumes they think he can tap into birds and other as well, just specializing on mammals). “Mammals are fun and all, but not all can have infrared vision of sorts (snakes), flight (birds) and enhanced healing (newts). How about you, if you’d have a power upgrade, what would you want to have?”

The fact that Annaleigh blatantly refused the bag made Zac more intrigued about the girl even more. Her confident comment about thrift shops around him even made her more “adorable”, for the lack of a better term, in Zac’s eyes. First she escapes his radar for five or so years and now she’d continuously turned down all his efforts to show off. Amazing feat really. Most of the girlspeople Zac met make the usual refusal at first, but when he starts pushing it (i.e. giving the bag directly), they falter. But Annaleigh, surprisingly, does not. Zac really likes the spunk in her, which would mean he’ll stick by her a little bit longer.

“Fine. I’m sorry for insisting,” he smiled, saying the words as if he’s hurt by her refusal. He knows she won’t take his act anyway, so whatever. He threw the bag on the couch then opened the door, ushering Annaleigh to follow him. “Gosh, it’s raining still? Guess we’ll be having our coffee chat indoors,” Zac smiled, opening his umbrella and signaling Annaleigh to stay by his side, hoping she won’t see the pile of umbrellas by the side of the door. “Ready Lei? Finally our planned coffee trip will now proceed,” chuckled Zac.

She laughed and shook her head when he spoke of power upgrades. Did Anna want another power? Hell no, she didn’t even want her own power so why would she want it to evolve? She wasn’t going to say anything as she pressed her lips together and just smiled. That was until he asked what she would want to have. Shrugging slightly she smiled. “Well I don’t know, to be honest I don’t know if I’d want another power really. Unless it was something really really helpful or something.” She said shrugging again. Anna seemed to shrug a lot. Bad habit much?

Anna felt slightly guilty when he sounded hurt. “Look it’s not that I don’t appreciate the really kind gesture, I do I swear, it’s just that, well I’m not used to people t-” Hesitating slightly, knowing that she was going to say treating me nicely she pushed the thoughts of her parents out of her head and shook her head. “I’m not used to people buying me things that are expensive and stuff you know?” Of course he didn’t, from what Annaleigh could tell, she and Zac were from completely different worlds. There was no way that Zac had ever not gotten what he wanted money wise. There was an air around him that was screaming LOOK AT ME I NEED ATTENTION! I HAVE LOTS AND LOTS OF STUFF TO BRAG ABOUT COME TALK TO ME ABOUT IT to everyone around him. Or at least he had done it to Anna more than once today.

She hadn’t noticed the umbrellas so she stood next to him. “Lets get the coffee before I decide it’s time for another sleep again.” She said smiling. She was trying to be her nicest and try not to let the grouchy part of her take over.

Zac carefully guided Annaleigh through the muddy Hammel grounds. While it may seem so chivalrous and caring for him to do just that, it’s more of a byproduct of his own narcissism really. He doesn’t want to get wet and muddy, so he carefully looks at where he goes and makes sure that the umbrella fully covers him. And because he’s got his arm around Annaleigh’s shoulder (his hand found its way to her shoulder accidentally, and he just let it be, seeing that Annaleigh hasn’t voiced her objection against it anyway), he unintentionally leads her closer into the center of the umbrella, protecting her from the rain too. Also, he carefully looks at their steps, careful not to splash mud all over, and he brings Annaleigh along with him too. Besides, he’d be having coffee, be seen around town, with Annaleigh. If she looks so dingy, it’ll mark on him too.

“Really, that’s sad,” he said, not looking at Anna directly but more on the ground, “I mean, I know a lot of people who’d kill just so that they can do more with their power. You really are different Annaleigh, in a good way of course.” He smiled, carefully stepping over a rock. “Let’s change the question then: if you’d be given the chance to choose which power you’d like to have, what would you choose? Or better yet, would you prefer to be a meta-human or just your average, ordinary, everyday human being?” He looked at her pensively, as if really trying to read her. Zac would know he’d choose to be a meta despite the unfair side effects of most gifts. He just wants to know how far Annaleigh’s spunk would take her.

“Don’t give much thought to it really. It’s nothing,” smiled Zac, trying to make it sound like it really is nothing, as it was the social convention. In reality, it’s everything to Zac. He lives on people appreciating him, on people fussing about him. A little more push on the ego and he might’ve renounced his religion in favor of building one that is all about him. Inwardly he’s laughing so much because finally Annaleigh recognized his efforts. He won’t push it too far this time, but soon, he will. “I betcha no one is really.” He would’ve added, of course, not everyone is rich enough to afford it. “It’s just, I don’t know how to make friends without using my money. I’m so sorry.” Now he’s turning everything into a sob story. Manipulative and arrogant, that’s what he is.

After a little bit of walking, they finally reached Zac’s treasured car. “Well then get in,” he said, opening the door to his car. “And no worries, I’ll drive safely,” he chuckled.

Though Anna wasn’t comfortable with being led through the grounds in this way, she didn’t complain. She didn’t pull away from Zac when he had his arm where it was, and she followed his careful foot steps. Why was this? Because she knew the price of these clothes. Ok so even if Zac decided he didn’t want to take them back and gave Anna the clothes, she still knew that they probably cost more than everything in her closet put together, and because of that she wasn’t about to let them get muddy or soaked.

A laugh sprung to Anna’s throat as he said she was different. “Well I’m glad I am, if people weren’t a little bit different then things would be boring wouldn’t they?” In Anna’s mind, being different was a good thing even if he hadn’t said ‘in a good way of course’. Anna wasn’t a person to follow the crowd so to speak. Whether that was because of her power or just because that was how Anna was, no one knew, it just happened like that.

When Zac asked her about if she would change her powers or give them up, Anna bit her lip. That was hard. Though Anna didn’t like her powers she didn’t know if she’d like to be a human. “I don’t know.” She said truthfully. “I mean, if I could have any other power, I’d want something that wasn’t intruding on someone else’s thoughts or feelings or private dream worlds, because I don’t think it’s fair that I go into their personal worlds and stuff.” She said slowly. “But I don’t know if I’d want to be a normal human.” She said shaking her head. “Sorry I don’t think I answered that question at all.” She said laughing slightly. “What about you?” She asked. “Human or meta? And if you could change your powers what would you change them to?”

She smiled back at Zac. He was slowly growing on her, though she knew there would definitely be things she didn’t like about him, he wasn’t too bad. Well not yet anyway. Hopefully he wouldn’t be too bad at all, and if he was she’d probably just try to avoid him. When he said he didn’t know how to make friends without using money she frowned. She didn’t think it was something that made her think oh you poor thing it just made her feel like he didn’t care who his friends were. “Uhm, no offense, but if you don’t know how to make friends without money you haven’t tried. Just be yourself, if you don’t then how do you know who’s your real friend?” Anna cursed herself in her head slightly, had she just said that she was a real friend of his? Oh well, now she had a friend she hoped it would say to him that she didn’t need gifts and stuff that he would try to give her.

She slowly got into his car and sat down, putting the plastic bag on the floor next to her feet. Hopefully he wouldn’t mind her leaving it there until after they came out from coffee, if he did then she would of course take it with her. She laughed when he said about driving safely. “I sure hope so.” She said.

After making sure Annaleigh’s snugly seated at her seat, he quickly made his way to the other side, careful still so as not to step on an unexpected mud puddle or be soaked by the rain. He smiled faintly as he sat on the driver’s seat, shaking his umbrella for a bit before throwing it in the back, beside the three or four shopping bags that have yet to be unloaded. As they drove off the Hammel parking lot and into Pilot Ridge, he spoke, “Too bad the weather had to be so moody today. Would’ve been fun to remove the top as we go around town.” Zac never liked the rain, and now that it came in the way of his showing off, he hates it even more. Of course, what he doesn’t realize that if it weren’t for the rain, he wouldn’t have taken a detour and he and Annaleigh wouldn’t have met (I know I’ve committed fallacy here, so yeah).

Zac thought about it for a while. Would he like it if everyone was like him? Well he is a bit narcissistic, and seeing his, in his words, god-like body, everywhere would be nice. But then he remembered that if everyone was like him, he’d be a nobody anymore. He’d be just another face in the crowd. Without his riches or looks separating him from the masses, he’d be nothing. He gulped. “I think it will be so boring,” he chuckled, somehow amused at his make believe scenario and how it will never, ever happen. Not until he lives. “Uniqueness is good. I like individuality.” It doesn’t really make sense, but given the weird train of thought that developed inside the boy’s head, I doubt he’d be coherent for quite some time.

As for Zac, he didn’t need more time to think about the question; his meta-humanness is more of a need really. “Well, if all else fails, I’d much rather be a meta than a normal human,” he shrugged, “If I turn out to be a normal, baseline human, then not only do I lose my birthright, I also bring shame to my family, my father and may cause massive instability to the ’delicate clan structure’.” He said the last three words with an aerial double quote, becoming a bit bitter when he remembered how pressured he was when he was nearing puberty and there weren’t any signs of powers yet. Who said growing up in a meta-human household was easy? Even the type of powers he’d develop was a touchy subject back then, the novelty of his gift and the deviation of it from the expected trend among the LaRousses causing quite the uproar within the clan too.

“I guess I’m putting too much thought into a supposedly light question, am I?” he laughed, trying to erase the awkwardness that his silence may have made. “I think I’d rather have, well, a mental power. Maybe mind control? Or something along that extent. Probably because that’s want people around me would’ve wanted me to have,” he tried hard to keep the bitter tone away, but he just can’t. And while this all seem like another complex sob story he’s created, it is indeed true, unlike the other lie he’s spun that Annaleigh quickly unraveled.

“Really? I guess I should try not being such a giver then,” he laughed, more because Anna’s got him completely cornered with his lie and he couldn’t do anything else but to drop the topic off. Anna’s really one spunky girl, he thinks. And nope, Zac hasn’t caught on the real friend subtext of Anna’s statement. Simply because he can be a bit too oblivious at times. “Thanks Lei, I’ll take your word for it.”

Anna had never heard the weather being called moody. It was a good way to describe it really. Though Anna didn’t think she’d ever say it. “It could be worse, at least there’s no lightening and thunder, it’s only rain.” Though she said this, Anna actually loved storms. She adored watching thunder storms, she usually did it from inside though.

She was glad that he liked uniqueness, though she didn’t dare ask why he liked it knowing that his answer would be very different from her own answer. She smiled as she listened to his answer. Anna knew he was going to choose meta, to be honest she was sure that she was one of few who either didn’t know or would prefer to be human. But the way that Zac spoke about being a meta human, it seemed more than just a preference, it sounded like he didn’t have a choice in it. Resting her head on her hands she looked at him slowly. “Your parents are meta humans?” She asked slowly. She wasn’t trying to show her ignorance or anything, she was just trying to make conversation.

“I thought you said that you thought mental powers were very common and stuff.” She said slowly. Hey she was showing that she did actually listen. “And you shouldn’t want something because other people want it for you, you did just said you liked uniqueness.” She pointed out smiling at him. It seemed as though Zac’s parents were pressuring, not fun for a teenager. She wouldn’t say anything because it wasn’t her place, but that was probably it right?

Smiling Anna shrugged. “If you want to make friends that way then it’s fine, but I’m just saying that people will always use you if you become their friend like that.” She said simply. That was her logic anyway, she didn’t know if it was the same for everyone though.

Zac chuckled, in a mix of amusement and relief. “Thank goodness then,” he said, “If lightning and thunder would throw themselves in there, it would be chaos. I hate the rain, and her sister storms.” Zac never liked the rain, not one bit. When he was young, their household included a couple of weather manipulators, always there to counteract the sky whenever it showed signs of drizzling. Zac actually saw his first rain when he was 5, when his mom noticed a dozen of deficiencies in him, mostly in his immune system, as he was living in ac controlled environment for too long.

He couldn’t stop himself from laughing at the absurdity of Annaleigh’s question. It seems seclusion for more than four years works both ways – people had no idea about who she is and she has no idea who people are. After all, Zac’s family is one of the key reasons why Zac has the confidence to brag around. “Yeah. My dad. My mom. My grandfather. My grandmother. My aunts and uncles. My cousins, well most of them anyway. Even my butler (though he doesn’t want to be called as one), my private tutors before, and most of my our household staff,” he answered, “They’re all metas. Back home, when you’re non-powered, you’re the unique one.” It’s only been two years or so before the LaRousse family has began employing non-meta in their household. Unlike other places, people in Zac’s house openly use their powers. Telekinetics do the dishes while cleaning the table, plant manipulators keep the garden in tiptop shape, technopaths manage the security systems – Zac felt really out of place when he was growing up as he can do nothing remotely remarkable. So really, to say that Zac’s childhood was unique would be an understatement.

“Did I? I guess made some sort of misunderstanding,” he answered, stopping promptly as the light turned red. “Well then put it this way: I want to be unique and I believe mental powers, along with manipulation ones, are far too common, hence my supposed lack of interest in them. But since my family’s branch is composed of almost entirely mentalists, so if I could change my power I’d like to be one too, so those nasty clan members would shut their traps already.” He tilted his head to the side as he faced Anna, as if asking if she understood what he just said. “In short, I’d want to have a different power, but I’d choose a rather common and boring one just so the issues surrounding me would stop.” His history was a bit convoluted to say the least, so he doesn’t expect her to understand it all in one go.

She was trying to be nice and helpful. Anna always attempted to look on the bright side, though sometimes she couldn’t. People weren’t in good moods sometimes so a positive attitude sometimes annoyed people. So Anna tended to make sure she knew if they were in the mood for positive attitude or not, if they weren’t, she wouldn’t do it, if they were then that’s fine.

Anna couldn’t help but be surprised when it came to how big the amount of meta’s in his house. “That seems like a lot of pressure.” She said pushing her hair back. “Bet the house is never boring though.” She said smiling. Anna didn’t know what it must be like to have such a big family, and such a big family who all had powers. Pushing her hair back again, Anna smiled lightly. She couldn’t imagine so many metas under one roof, well besides like it was in Hammel. But then again Hammel was a school, and Anna couldn’t think about it happening in a house.

Watching him as he spoke about his ideas of why he wouldn’t want a mental power, Anna understood. The pressure he was probably under from his family would have been intense, and she could understand why he’d want a different power. In all fairness she could totally understand the way Zac acted the way he did now. Anna now thought he wanted to show off anything he could because he couldn’t show off at home. He probably needed to show off more because of this. Or that was how Anna would say it. Smiling she could take his showing off a bit more now. “I can understand that.” She said honestly as she pushed her hair back.

“Pressure is an understatement,” he chuckled. Zac is lucky he developed a power. He could not imagine how big a mess it would’ve been if he became a base-line normal human, or at least developed his power waaay late. Not that his father would ever disown him or anything, but he’d likely lose his pedestal and place in the world, which is definitely not a good thing to look forward to for the young kid. “Would you believe that I met my first non-meta when I was 9? Well, I met a lot of non-meta when we took vacations and went to malls and stuff, but I mean, met my first non-meta friend?” he laughed, just realizing how pathetic and weird that may sound. “Her name’s Marga. Met her at one of my Dad’s parties. I kept asking her what her parents’ can do and she just looked at me blankly. I didn’t know back then but that may have made me look like a fool in her eyes. Probably why she didn’t call me back when we met again two years ago.” Yes, for every girl that doesn’t return Zac’s call, he has a perfectly reasonable explanation why. After all, Zac’s simply irresistible, right? (Cue sarcasm sign).

If Zac heard Anna’s explanation, he would’ve laughed. He never really asked himself why he showed off so much. So given that Anna tried to reason out something, and she even made him look good to beat, he’d be very much flattered. That and he’ll think even more that Anna likes him. Sorry Anna.

After making a left turn on the last stop light, Zac pointed to a quaint coffee shop to Anna’s side. “That’s the coffee shop I’ve been telling you. Best toffee mocha in town. And their cinnamon rolls are to die for too. Not that their drinks are subpar, but really, those two are must haves,” he laughed. Looking at the shop, with its dark brown theme and small-town feel, it was a surprise that Zac would check it out in the first place (the town has Starbucks after all). Fortunately Zac had a very insistent friend a few years back that pushed him to try out the new place. And since then, he’s been a frequent visitor. The store owner even knows his name now. “Now let me just find us some place to park so I can let you taste their wonderful treats already,” he smiled, looking earnestly for a spot.

She was surprised that he didn’t meet a non-meta until he was nine. “I can see why she’d be a bit wary of you.” She said laughing. “I didn’t know about meta’s until they came to get me to bring me here.” She said. Pushing her hair back she shook her head slightly. “It seems weird to me that you’d have to go through life with everyone around you having these powers, I mean I guess I’m used to it now, but that’s with people who well some of them can’t control it and stuff so it’s kinda like a learning thing, but with you you’ve grown up with it all your life.” Frowning at herself Anna realised that she was making no sense at all and was confusing even herself. “Ignore me I’m talking crap.” She said.

Looking over to where he pointed she saw the small style coffee shop she frowned lightly. This was the place? It looked like the type of place she’d go to, but she never picked Zac for something like this. Keeping quiet she just let him look for a parking space and smiled. “This is probably the good thing about walking and not having a car, you don’t have to hunt forever for a parking space.” She joked lightly.
