With the school so empty, Tomer had actually enjoyed himself during the week most of the other students were camping. There was no one around to witness his falls or spills and he had felt more relaxed in the quiet of the dorms. Of course, he'd gotten his homework out of the way first (and done a little extra credit), and kept up something of a routine. Though he didn't wake up at the same time he did on school days, Tomer didn't let himself sleep past 9 a.m., and he still went to bed at 11 at the latest. He had the idea he was probably supposed to be doing all sorts of wild and crazy things with most of the dorm and school to himself, but what those things were he didn't know.
Uncle Josh visited often, and on a one-on-one basis Tomer was coming to like him a lot more than he had previously. With just the two of them in the privacy of the empty dorm common room or courtyard there was less chance any theatrics would call attention to them, so Tomer was much less shy than he normally was, which had probably surprised his uncle at first. And he was getting to know Uncle Josh as a person, past the smalltalk that filled holidays and other gatherings. Tomer's younger namesake was very smart and highly vocal, which he knew, but he was also very kind and had curious gaps in the general knowledge Tomer assumed most adults had.
Case in point, during the final two days of the trip, Tomer had come over to stay in the house Josh shared with Sean, and had made most of the meals. Nothing fancy, scrambled eggs for breakfast and baked chicken and potatoes for dinner, with his uncle's famous sandwiches for lunch. On the last day, Tomer had suggested that the two of them tidy up so that Sean and Bailey came home to a clean house and clean sheets. Uncle Josh could bake something to welcome them home, and they could both cook dinner so that there'd be something nice to eat.
"So where's the cleaning stuff?" Tomer had left bed stripping to his uncle, since past just knowing where everyone slept he had no desire to invade personal space. "And if you don't know how to use the washer and dryer I might cry."
