After school workout... Noah

[Chase Sato]

Chase tapped his pencil on his paper, his dark eyes watching the clock next to the door, only half listening to what his history teacher was saying. Today had to have been the longest day, he skipped training last night, and had to do homework before class, so it had been a while since he had let out some energy. Chase was easily restless when he exercised, but without it, he just had so much extra energy, it made the teenager feel anxious, which in turn irritated him, making him cranky. He could feel the kid behind him glaring from the annoying tapping noise he was producing, but didn't care, and kept tapping.

Not even a moment after the bell rang was Chase up and out of his chair, out into the hallway, using his abilities for a short moment to get out of that room. Today, Chase had planned to train with a friend, Noah. They weren't close friends, the two have a class together, and hung out after school sometimes, but nothing really outside of that. Noah was a nice enough guy, Chase just wasn't that social. The boy stopped by his friend's locker, waiting for him to arrive so they could get going, tapping his fingers against his leg restlessly.

Class was difficult sometimes. Noah was trying to listen to what was being discussed by their history teacher, but he ended up pretending to jot down notes. Instead he was fiddling around with some lyrics to a certain song he promised a certain girl he would try to finish for her. It wasn't his fault that he felt like working on it in class; when inspiration hit, it just did. And he just happened to see her walking to class before he got there. Totally couldn't help it. But it wasn't going that well, which was frustrating.

So when the bell rang, Noah got up and was actually excited to be able to do some training. Normally it involved being in the pool, but he thought today things were going to be a little different. He got that Chase wasn't too social, but with this kind of thing, people didn't need to be. When he got to his locker he saw Chase waiting. He offered a small nod of his head in tandem with a; "Hey!"

"What're you up for today?" He knew the guy was into Martial Arts and that kind of thing, so it was interesting to learn from him when it came to that. He pulled open his locker and took his shirt off. He dumped it in his locker and retrieved a singlet instead. "Had a hard time paying attention too, huh?" He asked, pulling the singlet over his head and straightening it out on his form.

The Asian boy nodded in return to his friend as he approached his locker. Chase would have waited for him in the classroom, but he couldn't stand to be in that place for another second. Even standing in these crowded hallways made him just want to beeline to the next door, and gulp in the fresh air. The only time Chase could spend extended time indoors if his mind was distracted with activities like training. School was just too boring to keep his attention. Chase narrowed his eyes at a student who knocked into him passing by, noting they didn't even take the time to look back to apologize. Some people were just so rude.

Turning his attention back to his friend's question, he thought about what he wanted to do. Something that will spend all this energy quickly. "How about doing some laps?" Chase wasn't the best swimmer, but he had been learning lately, and loved the way that swimming worked out the whole body. He felt like he had enough energy to swim across an ocean.

Chase let out a rare chuckle, nodding his head "Yes, I thought class would never end, I hate history." he admitted to the other boy. He just found the class so useless, when was he ever going to use the skills learned in that class in the real world? Never, is what he assumed, and so the class was just seen as useless to him.

"Laps I can do." Noah replied. He searched around in his locker with his hand, finally reaching a water bottle that was about half full. An afternoon on the tracks meant he'd probably want to fill it up more before heading out. He grabbed another one just in case, though it was completely empty.

"I don't plan to like, be a history teacher. Or... Other jobs that you use extensive history knowledge in." He shrugged. Hey, if he couldn't think of more professions that needed it, that was a point within itself! He moved towards a nearby sink and started filling both bottles. When one was done, he tossed it in Chase's direction. "No one's ever asked me anything difficult to do with general history. Until now. How often do you think it's gonna happen after graduation?"

Chase was glad that he agreed to the swimming suggestion. He really was in the mood for it, since he was getting better at it, he was starting to have fun with it as well. He hadn't swam much before coming to Hammel, and could barely do a length without swallowing half the pool. But now he could do the strokes and stay afloat, and actually get some oversize in, as opposed to flailing around in the water. It was embarrassing at first, but he was glad he stuck with it, it was very calming as well, when all you can hear was the splashing of the water.

Chase followed him over to the sink, leaning against the wall as he filled up his water bottles, catching the one that was tossed to him. "Never, I don't think you can do anything else with a History Major other then teach." he said, putting the bottle into his bag.

It had been a real achievement to see how far Chase had come along with his swimming. Noah had been on a school swim team since he'd hit high school. When he transferred to Hammel almost a year ago, he joined the team as soon as possible. Perfecting things like breathing control and stroke patterns were the main things he thought about when working out in the pool. All other problems just seemed... Less important.

"You any good at English class?" He asked. He'd been meaning to find someone who might be able to help him out. Once he filled his water bottle, he grabbed his gym bag and started heading towards the pool. "The assignments are the hardest for me. I don't know why, I just always struggle with them."

The two boys headed towards the change rooms, the crowd in the hallways had started to settle down already, it seemed like he wasn't the only one eager to get out of school. He imagined it was probably harder to get the students here to focus on their regular work, when you had something like training your powers to contrast it with.

"English class? Not really..." It was actually the class that he had to put effort into to be able to pass. His other classes were easy enough to get okay marks with little effort, but since English wasn't his first language, the teenager had difficulty with it sometimes, especially because the level of difficulty between the English classes here and his old school was leaps and bounds more. "It was an easy class back home, but that's because it's just working level English, nothing like here.." They entered the change room, walked over to their usual lockers. Chase opened his, putting his bag on the hook inside. "I was thinking about looking for a tutor, actually. Maybe we can find one together?"

Noah smiled inwardly when Chase said he struggled with English class too. So it wasn't just him then; something about that made him feel a little better. Even if it was for different reasons that they had difficulty, it was still something they had in common. "I try to keep up with the readings and homework, but sometimes I just find myself blanking over and forgetting where I was."

Noah walked over towards his locker, glad that they weren't too far apart. He unlocked it and pulled it open, placing his bag in there. "Might be worth checking the notice board. Sometimes people put things up there when they're offering to be a tutor," He replied, "Or we could ask the teacher. I think he helps people out who are struggling."

"I just get confused with all the rules, there's so many that don't make sense." he felt like Japanese was so much more straight forward then English, but probably only because he grew up learning it. If the tables were turned and he grew up speaking only a little bit of Japanese, he would probably find it incredibly difficult to learn it, especially writing.

"I don't really like the teacher, to be honest." it had nothing to do with it being his least favorite class, he just felt like the teacher didn't like him. Though it was more then less likely due to his lack of effort, nothing else. "If I do end up getting a tutor, it'll be a student." Chase turned towards his locker and stripped down, putting on his swim suit. Some of the guys changed in private, but Chase just found it to be a waste of time, no one cared what you looked like naked, it was rare to catch people staring as well. Well, in his experiences so far.

Noah stifled his laughter when a thought came into his head. It wasn't like he was laughing at the guy or anything like that, but their issues really were different. "I can't imagine trying to learn Japanese though, y'know?" He asked, "I bet I'd struggle with the same stuff. The language seems really, really complex." People probably thought that about the English language too, but he would have no idea about that problem.

"A student tutor would be easier..." Noah mused. He started changing into his swim suit alongside the guy. He didn't care much either, he'd been on teams for sports for years. It was something people either got used to or they didn't. "Someone we could relate to, I guess. They get it from our perspective, not the perspective of a guy with a diploma, or bachelor degree... Or PhD. I'm not sure which one it is."

When he was ready, he looked back over towards him. "You ready?"

Chase shrugged "Second languages must just be hard in general, unless you're raised with them, probably." he responded, grabbing his goggles out of the locker. "But Japanese isn't that hard, just a lot to memorize, but that's true with all languages." he said with a small laugh, making sure he had his water bottle before they headed out.

"Ya, it's probably also easier for them to teach because they just learned it themselves, teachers just expect you to learn quickly because they've done it with so many before you." closing his locker, he nodded in response to being ready to go out, heading out of the change room, onto the pool deck.

There wasn't many people there, only a couple of other students doing laps, so they wouldn't have to share lanes, which was good. He wasn't good enough to swim straight sometimes, and if he shared a lane with someone, sometimes collisions happened. Beginning to stretch, he started with his arms. "It would probably be smart to get a tutor sooner then later, keep on top of the work before the work starts to get harder."

"A student tutor probably has cool tips that make it easier too. Like, special ways of taking in information that might be useful. Insiders edge or something like that." Noah mused. He knew it was like that when it came to remembering chord movements for the guitar, so he figured it might have relevance in other fields of learning too. It made sense in his head, anyway.

He was glad that there weren't many people in the pool this afternoon. They were pretty quick to bail from class, so Noah expected there to be enough lanes so that they wouldn't have to share. It was hard to get a good work up when having to share with other people. Noah pulled his arm across his chest, locking it in position with the other and stretching it out. "Didn't you just move in with some girl off campus? Do you think she'd be someone you can ask?"

"You know, I never thought of that." he said thoughtfully, stretching his other arm. He wouldn't want to bother her, but it was always worth a shot to ask. It would be convenient if nothing else. "I might ask her tonight." Since they did have lots of homework for the night. Chase was never really one to work on school work at home, but if he didn't want to fail this class he knew he would need to get help soon. If he didn't stay on top of the work, it would just get worse and worse as the year progressed.

"If she says yes, I can ask if she'll tutor both of us, if you want." Chase offered. It was only fair, after all, it was Noah's idea to ask her.

Noah nodded along to his idea as he pulled his other arm across his chest. He didn't really know much about whoever Chase had moved in with, apart from the fact that she was a she and her name started with a J. What was her name again? He tried to think on it for a while before he started talking again, but no answers came to his aid.

"That's be awesome." Noah replied, releasing his arms with a shake and lifted his leg from behind, grabbing onto his ankle to keep it in place. "So what's she like?" He asked, unable to really help himself when it came to questions like that. Of course, he didn't really get when he said it that Chase probably wouldn't follow his lead.

He kind of hoped that she would say yes to this now, now that he had the thought in his mind, it was just so convenient, it would be a shame if she said no. But he wouldn't be mad, just disappointed in the lack of convenience. Finishing with his stretched, he sat down at the edge of the pool, putting his feet into the water. It was always the perfect temperature, except for in the morning. For some reason it always felt cooler in the morning time.

"Shes... just a girl, I guess." he answered with a small chuckle at the vagueness of his statement. "She talks a lot, but she's nice. Can't complain that shes good looking too." he added with another chuckle.
