General Appearance:
Duncan is 5’10” with an almost muscular build, but with pudge around the middle. His arms and legs are where the muscle lives. He always has a beard, which is well-maintained about half the time. When his workload is too high, he trims it less than once a week.
Duncan wears t-shirts and jeans (or cargo pants) most of the time. When he’s teaching, he tosses a button-down shirt over his t-shirt. When he’s outside, he usually wears a Half-Life 2 hat. He owns two pairs of hiking boots: one for summer and one for winter. As for color, Duncan dresses almost exclusively in earthtones (and black). All of the exceptions are for amusing shirts.
Personality:
Duncan is weird. He can and will appear or disappear in the middle of a (multi-person) conversation. He’ll join into a conversation he overhears if he finds it interesting.
He is also very curious and easily distracted. Thankfully, he is medicated for ADHD so he can at least competently do his job, but it can be difficult to grade papers on time. He does love teaching, and will spend hours chatting with someone if they don’t know a subject he knows. Also if they do know a subject and he wants to see how well they reason.
Duncan has a large set of things he loves besides teaching. Learning, programming, watching people, hiking, rock climbing, taking things apart, and lockpicking. He can get frustrated at other people’s emotions, and also he tends to distrust people. He has a lot of “Intrusive Thoughts” and doesn’t think other people have the self control to not act on them.

History
Duncan grew up in Brattleboro, Vermont. He had a good childhood: lots of friends, lots of adventure, and very bad grades. He managed to squeak by with the minimum, and only got held back once in fourth grade. Which meant more friends! Which was good because he lost a few friends because he was a bit of a jerk.
He didn’t even know he had powers until a recruiter showed up at his house. He just thought he healed better than his friends. He had a lovely time at Hammel. He spent a lot of his upper teenage years saying “Hey, check this out!” and then stabbing himself so they can watch him heal.
He went to Lyndon State at 19, and dropped out in the first semester. He did learn about rock climbing at Lyndon State’s wall, which he considers a plus. He was finally convinced to get medicated for ADHD, and worked in a gas station until the next year. He enrolled at UVM at 20, where he got a, associates in computer science, and then a bachelors in secondary education. He worked in the IT department during the last 3 years of his schooling, when he wasn’t doing his teaching internships.
After graduation at age 27, Duncan worked for four years teaching computer basics to middle school students in Brattleboro, before he applied to Pilot Ridge doing the same.
On a more personal note, between 22 and 27, he had a difficult on-again, off-again relationship with a non-meta girl at UVM. He’s had others, but his thing with Melanie was... interesting? Special? Difficult? Either way, it’s the reason he doesn’t tend to take relationships seriously.
Roleplay Example
Duncan laid on the grass and stared up at the sky. There was so much to teach, and so little time to teach it all. Standard procedure for teaching a programming language always started out with printing a message, then variables, if statements, loops…. There wasn’t really a way to improve upon the standard, but an innovated lesson plan would be impressive. If he could come up with one.
A flash of brown caught Duncan’s eye, and he looked up in time to see Melanie walking by. She had missed him because she was talking on her cellphone. Well, that and Duncan was laying behind a rock wall with a small gap through which he could see the path.
He stood and quietly followed behind her. She didn’t look around as she made her way into the building, which made it easy for Duncan to catch the doors before they closed and let himself in to all but her dorm room. He knocked on the dorm door, and it opened.
“You don’t pay much attention to your surroundings.” he told her.
