Posters have been put up all over the Hammel Institute by a determined Everett Lilien, trainer and new home-ec teacher to gauge interest for the event he's planning. (Yes, he's actually planning something). His goal is to encourage creativity, meeting other students you don't usually associate with, and of course, learning about the joys of cooking!
Not only is this contest open to students in cooking class, but also any student interested in cooking or any other aspect of the event.
I'm picturing this competition to be between Hammel students and volunteering staff will be judging the contest alongside Everett. Students will sign up and be matched with another student to create a dish of their choice in either the appetizer, entree or dessert category. Ideally, I hope to have enough students sign-up so that there can be a winner in each category.
There will be a short application to help match students with each other based on what kind of food they want to make for the cook-off and their experience with cooking.
Participation also gives students in Ev's cooking class extra credit!
The only thing I'm still fuzzy on, is how exactly the cook-off will run. As of right now I'm thinking that after students get their assignments they will have a certain amount of time (a couple of hours probably) to choose what they are going to make and then the introductory thread will split off into individual threads of the partners interacting and making their dish. I would time the event for a few weeks or maybe just for the month of April so that people would have a good chunk of time to thread with one another as I know our lives are hectic, and then the judges would vote in a poll based on who interacted the best and made the best tasting dish in each category. Or I could obliterate judges in general and have all members on Hammel here cast votes!
Ideas and comments are welcome as well as showing me if you have interest!
Thanks guys!
