[ Ash N. Engel ]
(Seventeen) ✦ (Asexual) ✦ (Rude) ✦ (Distant) ✦ (Nosy)
||Summarized||
In one sentence- Ashley is a reclusive telepath with no respect or proper understanding for other people.
More elaborately, she has an antisocial personality disorder that while identified was never properly handled throughout her childhood. Thus leading her to be a disconnected, blunt-tongued person seemingly incapable of identifying with emotions as they pertain to others. Which is not to say she isn't capable of feeling or understanding emotion. She simply can only process these things as they occur to her. Simply put, she could understand someone not liking other people, because she does not like other people. But she cannot grasp why someone might cry over a dead pet, because she herself has never had a pet, or lost one.
Generally Ashley's interests lie in academic fields. She likes learning, even if the specific topic doesn't interest her. It is the act of acquiring information and skills she enjoys, not the use of the skills themselves. This year (her first, technically) at Hammel she is driven by a newfound personal goal to apply herself in areas previous shied from. Less delicately put- she's trying to force herself to talk to other people and learn to control her powers. Thus, all interaction ideas and plotting suggestions are more than welcome.
||Noted Ties||
Thomas (Father) & Elisia (Mother) Nettle ✦ Not on good terms. After turning to her grandfather for an out upon her powers manifesting, her parents legally surrendered her to his care. She hasn't talked to them since the day recruiters showed up for her.
Benjamin Engel (Grandfather/Guardian) ✦ Benjamin and Ash share ground in that they both are seemingly incapable of properly identifying with other people. Whereas Ashley is still struggling to deal with her situation, Benjamin grew up into a manipulative personality. Despite this, he's open with his intentions towards Ashley and the two thusly seem to get along well- if not overly businesslike by other's standards.
Cain Croix (Closest Friend/Platonic Soulmate) ✦ A vagrant metahuman who goes by the fake name Daniel Reed. He is Ashley's first and closest (if not only) friend, and the two stay in close contact via near constant text messaging. The journal Ashley keeps with her at all times was a parting gift from Cain when she first left for Hammel.
Marnie Sullivan (Roommate/Friend?) ✦ While the relationship itself is largely unidentifiable and strange, it is there. On Ashley's end of the equation, she views Marnie as a mildly interesting stand out from the background objects of other people. Emotionally Ashley lacks a firm opinion on Marnie, but does have a strong impulse of possession. (Which is about as close as she's been capable of getting to others sans perhaps Cain.)

||'Everyone Else' Category||
Sean Neville (Institute Psychiatrist) ✦ Classified as most adults- frustrating, disinteresting. Especially so given his job. Which is all poor luck and circumstance, really. Ashley tends to react directly defensive towards him only due to his position as a psychiatrist.
Oriel Vanguard (the strange boy) ✦ Seen as 'the one that likes odd games'. Not particularly considered unpleasant, but not especially welcomed like Marnie or Cain. A (by Ash's standards) "healthy neutral". She wants to learn more about him but won't really go out of her way unless all other alternatives are less desirable.
Greg Mackenzie (the tall one) ✦ Progenitor of all bad ideas and terrible goings on. He's not really the source of all evil, but Ashley considers him something close. He's tall, generally chipper, and likes parties. On top of his power, he's almost all things Ashley dislikes in people. Almost. Thanks to his helping her out once, she's not really pushed into the realm of disliking him entirely. A reserved tolerance, perhaps.

||Ideas for Getting the Ball Rolling||
Clubs Are Important
Well, sports were out of the question. So a logical step in operation: be social is to join a club. But which one? Eugh, maybe this was a bad idea.. A brief probing into information about clubs is bound to lead to someone from a club trying to chat. Doesn't have to end in Ashley joining anything, but the exchange idea is worth listing.
Rumors Make the World Go Round
Doesn't matter how ridiculous, inaccurate, or potentially offensive. Everyone's heard rumors about someone. Either Ashley overhears thoughts that strike a nerve, or someone dares make conversation to prove something the heard right or wrong. Either way, gossip is afoot and in need of correction.
Problem Child
Throw a bunch of kids with messed up hormones in one place and sparks are bound to fly. Especially if any of them can actually shoot sparks. Ashley can't, but telepathy hosts it's own options for causing fights. One way or another, something bad breaks out. Ashley manages (probably easily) to get into a physical confrontation. Lo and behold though, hearing someone's thoughts is a big advantage in a fight. Things quickly get messy.
Curious George Defies Darwinism
If there's anything stronger than Ashley's aversion to people, it's her attraction to learning. Despite every reason she has to not talk to people, sometimes things are too good to not learn about. Your characters knows something, a skill, talent, displayed power. And Ash wants to understand it more. For better or worse. (Likely worse.)
Familiarity Breeds Contempt
Slowly but surely adjustments to Hammel have been made. And with that sinking into schedule, Ashley is putting less focus on schoolwork and strict guidelines and more on the people around her. Not with good intention, either. A day of already low patience comes to a head and some poor soul becomes a random victim. Could be used to cause friction with a couple, or spark a confession between a secret crush. Or just the reveal of some secret, romantically inclined or otherwise. But something someone thought but didn't want put out in the open gets exposed as Ashley's patience with her surroundings crests at an unfortunate moment.
You're the Human Lie Detector
So maybe using other students for their powers is considered rude. But she can read minds. It's very multi-purpose. Someone needs thoughts read, and of all the telepaths to try to snag for it they wind up asking Ashley. And likely to everyone's surprise, she agrees. Could be a 1/1 or group/open thread. Someone getting more than they bargained for is almost guaranteed. Feel free to spark drama/conflict with this.
I Was Never Trained For This
Someone's having a meltdown. Rage, sadness, anxiety. Doesn't matter what emotion, but it's strong and loud. Somehow Ashley winds up as the only witness present to another character having an emotional moment. Awkwardly, she attempts interaction instead of escape. Likely due to being stuck with the thoughts of the person making her sick from volume. Ash being the opposite of helpful is almost a promise.
(More will be added as time and ideas arrive.)
