The 'earth' Without 'art' is Just 'eh' (Lucas)

Akira sat on the ground with his legs crossed. He had his sketchbook in his lap. His pencil quickly moved around the paper. Every now and again Akira would stop and look up. He studied his surroundings. The pond was peaceful with the koi fish swimming around. The trees stood tall. The sky was blue with big white puffy clouds. Students strolled by enjoying the nice day. Akira continued his sketch.

Today Akira was using pencil. His preferred element was ink because then he could use his powers. But every now and again Akira liked to use something different, whether it was pencil, paint, pastel, or anything else.

He was totally focused on his sketchbook.

He noticed a boy sitting near the pond and decided to walk over.

Luke had taken a stroll around school property just to enjoy nature and time alone. Sure, time spent alone was not as fun as with Karalie, but it allowed him to think about what she could do, not what she was doing. And as much as he promised he knew he couldn't deliver. But he sure as hell would try.

At the pond with his legs crossed and holding a sketchbook along with a pencil was a student Luke had only seen a few times, and had not spoken to this one. It was time to remedy that, he figured. And in the meantime he could watch the kid draw since his ability allowed him to ''learn'' by just watching, and drawing was something that interested him.

He walked over and sat down besides the student with a smile, not even waiting for an acknowledging nod or anything, just waiting for his pencil to be off the paper in case it startled him.

''What ya drawing?''

Akira looked up when a question was asked. A boy was sitting next to him watching Akira draw. How long had the boy been sitting there? Akira wasn’t sure, but it didn’t matter. “The scenery,” he waved his hand at the scenery.

He used his finger to smudge some of the graphite to create the proper shading that Akira wanted. Akira wiped his finger on his pants. Who said art wasn’t messy? By the time the teen was done with his art, usually his hands and cloths would be covered with whatever element he was using.

“Do you draw?”

So apparently the boy didn't notice Luke plopping down right next to him. Good. He didn't feel like disrupting an artist at work. But when he finally did ask something he got a nice reply in return despite Luke being able to see himself as a creepy stalker trying to intrude private space. The boy waved at the air around them and said he was drawing the scenery, which Luke only now realized was gorgeous as all hell.

He then continued drawing and did something Luke figured only real artists used; he smudged the drawing with his finger. The boy had seen it dozens of times but failed to understand why it was used, and more importantly when. The single worst drawback of his ability was being able to do, but not being able to understand. Though that could be remedied quite easily he assumed.

''Nope.'' Luke said with a sigh as he plopped down his arms behind him for support. ''Would like to learn though, could be interesting.'' He said with a smirk.

Akira took a quick glanced at the boy next to him. “Then learn. It’s simply.” Akira looked at his drawing and then to the scenery and then back down to his sketchpad. He picked up the pencil sharper that was sitting next to Akira. The Japanese artist sharpened his pencil to a fine point. He continued adding details to the picture on the paper.

“Is there anything stopping you from learning?” Akira asked without looking up from his work.

The boy told Lucsas to simply learn as he continued drawing whatever he was drawing. As the boy looked up briefly to look at the sky, and possibly the birds and the bees and the trees and pretty much whatever -oh right, he was drawing the scenery!- Luke had a quick peek of his notebook and saw his name scribbled down in the corner of the page. At least, he assumed it was his name. It'd be better to refrain from boldly assuming it was in fact, his name.

''Nothing is stopping me from learning.'' Luke replied with a smile as, in fact, he was learning how to draw right that instant. Granted it would only be tha specific drawing, but still. Learning was learning, right? ''You just keep on drawing, bud, and I'll learn quick enough.''

Akira paused for a moment then continued. Watching was one way to learn but wouldn’t the boy next to Akira want to practice? People could only learn so much by watching. They would learn more by doing. “Do you want to practice? I have plenty of paper and pencils.”

Akira ripped out a piece of paper and handed it with a pencil to…Akira still didn’t know what the guys name was. “I’m Akira. What’s your name?”

''Oh fuck oh fuck oh fuck!'' The guy wanted him to draw instead of watching! If he was a normal guy he was sure it'd be safe to assume he'd be able to learn better through practice, but.. he wasn't normal, was he? He drew like a pro through sight alone. He didn't want to one up the guy by drawing what he wanted. And it wasn't like he could turn off his ability either. He could think of drawing something without his ability, or even imitate a toddler for the time being in terms of drawing. He could..-

A piece of paper and a pencil were held out to him as the boy before him ripped him from his line of thoughts and asked him for his name while mentioning his own. Good. Maybe he'd be able to keep from drawing a bit longer. ''Nice to meet ya Akira.'' He replied with a smile as he took the pencil and the paper. ''I'm Lucas. You can say you knew me way back when in the future.''

“Draw what ever you want, Lucas-san.” Akira said with a smile.

Akira’s eyes looked between the scenery and his picture. He was comparing the two looking for differences in the details. Most artists don’t like someone watching them draw or having a conversation with them. Akira didn’t mind having someone talking to him while he was drawing. Yes, he sometimes he likes to be alone when he is working, but other times he likes the company.

“Do you know what you are going to draw, Lucas-san?”

He mulled it over in his mind as he looked at what Akira had drawn, it looked stunning. ''I don't.'' He finally replied as his hand just went in circles over the paper. He would know what to draw, he had his head full of ideas and he could execute everyone of them perfectly, the only downside would be that whatever he drew wouldn't be his and no matter what he did, he suddenly realized, would be his own, it would always be a copy of someone.

He suddenly put the pencil down on the paper and began drawing a few lines. He lifted his hand for a moment and looked at the skyline. ''Sure is beautiful, right?''

''I think I'm going to try my hand at a bird.''

Akira looked to Lucas to see where he was looking. Akira looked up to the skyline. “Hai,” Akira paused as he admire the day. It was certainly a stunning day.

“The earth is one painting. One painting that is forever changing.” And it was true. The earth was just one huge beautiful painting that was never the same exactly for every moment. The sun traveled around, creating different shadows. The wind would reposition nature. The leaves changed colors in the fall, the rain gave the world a new look, the white blanket of snow would give the earth a wonder winter land feel. Akira used his finger to smudge the graphite to get the shading Akira wanted. “Nature is pretty cool that in that way.”

The Japanese teen glanced over to Lucas. He watched Lucas for a moment before he asked a question. “What’s your power?”

''My power?'' Luke chuckled as his hand drew a basic outline of a bird as he started slowly filling it in. ''My power is assumed muscle memory.'' He told the boy as his hand continued drawing, and while he himself didn't know what he was drawing, he'd see in due time.

''What my power does is, it makes me learn by seeing, but instantly. It's kind of like cheating, but I think of it as a talent instead of a cheat.'' He offered a smile as he kept looking up in the sky, seeing multiple birds fly by. Sometimes he wondered about how it would feel to fly.

''So here I am, learning how to draw some more as we speak, because obviously I already knew how to draw some stuff.''

''I was thinking though, yer a good drawer, right? What if I'd ask ya to draw a few pictures near me? I could learn a thing or two.''

Akira listened to Lucas explaining his power. “So you are able to copy movements?” Akira was quite happy with his drawing on paper. He flipped the page to a new blank page. What should he draw next? Maybe Akira would use his ink manipulation for the next drawing.

“Hai.” Akira was more than happy to “teach” Lucas how draw some pictures. He could always use his power another time. “Is there anything in particular you want to know how to draw, Lucas-san?” He sharpened his pencil.

''I am, I am.'' He replied with a nod when Akira simplified his explanation and went back to focusing on his drawing after that. He flipped the page indicating he was done with the drawing as the copycat was still working on his own drawing. Well, he wasn't working on it as much as his hand was. It was a weird feeling to not have to think about moving your hand and it moving anyway, but he had gotten it under control within a few years and had gotten over his fear. ''But sometimes I also.. copy the way people act.'' He stated suddenly, looking at the artist next to him. ''Like, not instantly, but it seems to be a thing that if I get comfortable near people I act like them. Usually it takes some time for that to happen though.''

''So ya should be safe.'' He joked with a smile.

''There ain't really anything I can think of right now..'' He replied to his question about what he wanted to know how to draw. For some reason this guy just took what he had said for granted. It was kind of nice not to be judged by his power for once. ''What's yer power anyway? Can ya show me?''

Akira laughed. “If you start acting like me, then we should go see my roommate. He doesn’t like me. So, having someone else like me would drive him up the wall.” Akira joked. Tormenting Chris would not be a good idea. Besides that just what Akira needed to do, give another reason to hate him.

“Hai! I have ink manipulation.” The Japanese teen looked at the inside of his left wrist and showed the kanji that was written. “Ni-chan did this. He has the same power as me.”

Akira placed his sketchbook on the ground. He pulled out a pen from the pencil case. He took apart the pen. Akira had his hand over the opening. As he lifted his hand the ink inside of the pen followed. Akira smiled. He placed the ink on the paper. Akira moved his hand over the ink and paper. The ink followed. When Akira finished and took his hand away, a drawing of a flower was on the paper. “Cool, ne?”
