Neil’s not really too fond of the descriptor – defining his identity as simply an extension of someone else’s was wrong on so many levels, even though that someone else was someone really important in his life but recently he couldn’t quite deny that he’s been one after he got married to James Lionel Harris, his long-time partner and the eventual CEO of his family’s business, Harris Industries.
Which might explain why when a high school fried passingly told them that there’s an opening in their alma mater, Neil wasted no time securing the job. It excited his sister, his number one fan and biggest critic, saying that the process brought back who Neil was: smart, independent, driven. He wouldn’t go and say that being a stay-at-home-partner-slash-occasional-socialite made him lose who he was, but he would agree that the whole process of moving from California to Vermont, securing his own place and the job, and now living alone did make him excited in ways he hasn’t been for a while now.
He’s a Hammel alumnus. Recruited when he was 13 (1994) and graduated in 1999. He was quite the student, always aiming for the top whether it was in his academics, extra-curricular involvement or even in his social life.
He’s Canadian. His family migrated to Vancouver, BC, when he was 12. The government had a deal with the Institute that allowed him to fulfill the residency requirement despite not being in Canadian soil for the longest time.
He’s married. Lionel and him met in Hammel, had been friends since they were 15 and been together since they were 17. Neil liked him so he put a ring on him when they were 21, though they didn’t get married until they were 26. Lionel and the Harris famiy were a high-profile family, and thus keeping their private life away from the prying eyes of the public was quite the challenge. (Lionel being a loud advocate of the causes he support didn’t help either).
Feel free to send me a message here, a PM through chatango (themightykale) or just call me out in the cbox. I’m down for most anything, so please don’t be scared. Thanks lots you guys.
Cheers,
Kale
