A lot had been on Alanna's mind lately.
There had been a time when she loathed her powers and wanted nothing more than to be rid of them. Her motivation in controlling her powers was simply so that she could come the closest she ever would to not having them at all. They had seemed to be only a burden with no helpful purpose at all. People only got mad when you knew their thoughts and more often than not all she learned was things she didn't want nor need to know. Add in the headaches and the need to avoid any sort of crowd and well... it just didn't seem a worthwhile trade honestly.
But small things had begun to make her wonder if that was really true.
There had been Key, the mute boy who didn't need pen and paper to talk to her. There was Rachel, the little girl in a dark place. She didn't know how to help the latter, but had she not been able to hear her thoughts, likely she never would have met her at all, and it at least had seemed that their talk had gone well. Her old roommate Oliver had been kind to her too, even when he learned what her power was.
Mostly though it could be traced back to Jasper, as most things in her life could.
It was fitting really, considering it had all started with Jasper too. For her two years at Hammel, he had been her first friend, and the first person she could talk to without needing her camera in hand. When he learned of her power, he hadn't cared either. Little surprise given that nearly everything he thought he also said, but still. He was the first person who made her feel truly comfortable with the fact that she could hear every passing thought.
How she had gotten lucky enough to become his girlfriend she still wondered from time to time, but whatever the reason, she was grateful for it.
Jas had seen her through the absolute worst of her power and he hadn't turned away from her, and that meant everything.
All these things together had her wondering if perhaps there was in fact a way to put all she had been through to good use. She didn't know the answer, but she knew the one person who could point her in the right direction. After all, he was a telepath himself, so who would know better than him?
That was what had given her the courage to schedule an appointment with Dr. Neville and subsequently brought her to his office today. Of course, he was a busy man, and she had arrived early no less. She didn't mind waiting for him to call her into his office though, if anything it gave her more time to steel her mental barriers and to plan what she wanted to say.
