It was so nice out. Layla had tried to talk her older sister into coming up for the day to go hiking, but unfortunately Sophia had plans with her boyfriend. Typical. She didn’t even bother texting her brother; he was always busy. Plus, he lived too far away to come up on such short notice like that.
Well, Layla wasn’t going to let that keep her out of the sunshine. Even though it wasn’t as exhilarating as hiking a mountain, running around the city was just as good of a workout. And with all the stress of the term coming to close and everyone handing in late and unfinished assignments all at the same time, Layla definitely needed some way to unwind.
She loved running, and even though track wasn’t her sport of choice in high school (it was soccer) she was still always able to let her mind wander once her breathing had evened out and the soreness in her calves dissipated.
What she didn’t like was getting a cramp about halfway through.
“Ow…ow…ow.” Layla slowed to a stop in the downtown area. Stopping in the middle of her runs really through off her groove and it was hard to get back into it after, but she didn’t think that it was a good idea to attempt to run through leg cramp. A side stitch, sure, but these hurt a lot more and they took a lot longer to fade away. Maybe she should stop - just for a couple minutes - to stretch.
So she stopped in front of one of those older benches by the bus stop and propped her leg up against it, wincing as she leaned forward in an attempt to stretch her leg out. Maybe she should have called it quits after four miles…
