Thread Roulette: Going on a Picnic

One of the Pride events is a big picnic out by the lake. It will be potluck style with catering covering the bulk of the food. Axelle Flint and Jamie Dubois have been sent out early under adult supervision to help set up picnic tables, beach umbrellas, serving stations (without the hot dishes), and decorations.

Why was Jamie here again? Oh right, because he’d been a fucking idiot and got caught smoking and skipping class by the fields. So now their idea of punishment was making him do some manual labor instead of just sticking him in detention like any normal school. The only silver lining to this was that they let him out of class early. Now if only he could find some way to ditch out of this stupid community service activity.

Shouldn’t be too hard. Their supervisor was probably as old as the fucking hills, so it shouldn’t be too difficult to give him the slip. Then again, his partner would probably snitch on him if he didn’t do anything. Jamie really needed to learn to bolt when he saw adults coming, now that he knew they could punish him with something other than detention.

Jamie had carried an armful of umbrellas out to the pond, dropping them on the ground carelessly. He didn’t think that they should be providing shit like that. If people wanted shade than they should bring their own fucking umbrellas. Or sit in the sun, like most normal people.

He figured he’d set up a few tables, maybe a decoration or two and call it a day. It was a lot more than he did during a normal day.

Axelle, all nearly twenty years of boundless young energy was confused as to why she needed "adult supervision" when she was IN FACT an adult. Until she saw her partner skulking about like an upset house cat. As someone who generally had very little patience for the type of behavior that usually afflicted young teenage males she was immensely glad that she didn't have to be in charge of one. Plus it allowed her to think about other things as she easily hauled a few tables to the spot in question. She had to hold them over her head though since she was too short to carry them under her arms. She diligently trotted to the place the tables would be put up later and went back for more.

Having super human strength made it easy for her to grab more than her fair share of equipment in an effort to get the placement done quickly, she had a date later with Corbin and was certainly looking forward to it...even though she had certainly woken up in bed with him this morning. She liked that they were living together now, it made her immensely happy that they were able to spend all the more time together. Axelle's little daydream however was short lived when she tripped over her large work boots and tumbled forward with a small shriek. Unable to alter her path she fell headlong against a tree, which...with anyone else would have resulted in a major injury of some sort...Axelle's durability and strength however decreed that the tree instead shifted somewhat with the force of her impact and several roots became free from the ground to entangle her.

"Ouch." she said uselessly as it hadn't hurt at all.

Jamie’s partner was definitely a lot more helpful than he was. Already she’d brought over most of the tables on her own, a task he’d assumed they might need a few extra hands to complete in a timely fashion. Clearly they’d chosen her for this assignment for a reason. They’d obviously just stuck Jamie in it just to get him to do something, since his abilities really had no real use in this situation.

Most guys probably would have been a little put off by having a girl upstage him in manual labor, but it really didn’t bother Jamie. Less work for him.

Unfortunately, while she was strong enough to lift full size picnic tables over her head, it didn’t look like she was coordinated enough to stay on her feet. Jamie watched as she tripped over her own boots and took a header right into the large oak tree a few feet away, wincing as she literally uprooted trunk.

“You all right?” Jamie asked, making his way over to her. He didn’t know her, and she didn’t look that injured, but he still felt like that was decent thing to do. He may be lazy, but he’s not a prick.
