Falling Asleep on the Ferris Wheel (OPEN)

Monroe wasn't really sure why he'd gone to the field day. I mean, he was tired and he had bags under his eyes that were obvious and somehow he'd still managed to look good in a pair of dark denim jeans, a military jacket with a t-shirt underneath and his combat boots. He'd walked around on his own for a while, looking at everything that was going on. Everyone was so full of energy which only seemed to make him more tired in comparison. At least...at least nobody else would be sleeping here, right?

He'd paid the small amount needed to get onto the ferris wheel and got in his own cart. He didn't care how much he looked like a loner. He'd be far up away from people and if he could just shut his eyes for a moment!

As the little cart rocked back and forth in the sky, Monroe shut his eyes sleepily, sprawling out across the little space as the ride went on around him.

One of the major draws of this year's community fair was the Ferris wheel that the town had rented. While Sean had started up a conversation with a neighbor, Josh had lead Bailey and Tomer over to the ride. It towered over the rest of the fair, offering a gorgeous view of the lake for anyone interested.

Josh was interested.

"Ready to go up?" He asked, helping his charges into their cart. The metal bar that acted as a seatbelt was yanked into place, and then the man who had taken their tickets closed the gate before walking toward the controls.

Above them, unknown to Josh, one of the participants was asleep.

"So Bailey, have you ever been on a Ferris wheel before?"

Given her history he wasn't sure if she would have had the opportunity.

Bailey had been to fairs before, but she never had any money to spend on something. She had always wandered around, looking at the various booths for a while before leaving again. What fun was a fair without any money to spend? Today however was different! Bailey had been looking forward to this day. Wearing her favourite summer dress, one with colourful flowers printed on the fabric and a fake flower in her hair she had followed her foster parents to the fair. There were so many things to see there and there even was ferry wheel.

Of course Bailey was interested to go up and she nodded eagerly when Joshua asked her if she was reading to go up. Excited she climbed into the chart. Bailey smiled: “No I have never been on a ferris wheel before!” She couldn’t wait to be on the top!

The Ferris wheel had both excited and worried Tomer. He'd been on one before, the one inside the Toys R Us in Times Square. But that had been an indoor wheel, and as exciting as it had been at the time it had still been fenced in by the rest of the gigantic store and had had a certain... placidity? About it. Tomer couldn't quite put his finger on it. The feel of something that should have been out in the open held underground. A... lack of authenticity, maybe. When Tomer finally saw the Ferris wheel at the field day, he understood immediately what the one in Times Square had been missing.

A sense of danger.

Which, upon reflection, was not a bad thing. Tomer had not felt any fear on the wheel inside the toy store, but the one at field day made him uneasy. He wanted to go on it, but all the horror stories he'd heard about Ferris wheels had flooded his brain with sudden sense, even though most of them were pure fiction. But he'd watched it in action while doing other things, and it seemed to be operating just fine. Nothing fell off, everything looked solid. With his uncle's help, Tomer got himself situated on the metal bench, crutches laid beside him, anticipatory smile on his face, anticipatory flutter in his stomach.

"I've never been on an outdoor one," he said, surprising himself. Tomer felt shy in front of Bailey, and hadn't been able to bring himself to speak much around her. Since she was Uncle Josh's foster daughter, he figured it meant they were like... foster cousins.

"Ferris wheels are a lot of fun," Josh assured the two children as the ride began to creak up into the air. Fear of heights might be off putting to some, but unlike, say, a roller coaster, the Ferris wheel didn't spin or turn upside down or race about in motion sickness inducing speed. No, it just turned round and round, gentle and steady and decidedly lacking in adrenaline related thrills.

"If you see Sean when we get up to the top be sure to wave," he laughed, leaning over the front of their box to look down below them. He doubted they could see the telepath from here, although he could probably 'hear' them.

While glancing downward a form slumped inside one of the boxes got his attention, and a worried frown crossed his face. "Do you think that person is okay?"

He didn't want to stop the ride, but perhaps they would have to alert someone, just in case there was a problem.
