Being outdoors during winter was something that Ket avoided as much as humanly possible, except for when she was at work because it was ultimately inevitable and she felt safe there anyway. The streets of Pilot Ridge in the middle of winter in the evening were not friendly to her, despite the warm glow of Christmas lights behind the windows. She had more reason than most to hate the cold and dark, and as she wandered down the street towards her destination she pulled the fleece-lined coat tighter around her narrow frame.
As usual, as soon as Ket entered the pet store she grabbed a basket and went straight over to the bargain corner. Bags of food that had been torn or were close to the end of their shelf life and toys and other accessories that were damaged made up the bulk of the finds in this part of the store. It was where Ket did as much of the shopping as possible for her two pets. Two massively discounted bags of cat food found their way into her basket, as did a packet of toy mice that looked like they’d been dropped in a puddle and then dried off. Domino wouldn’t care about that. Another moment’s rummaging produced an actually new and intact looking horse halter, and while she had no idea why it was reduced, Ket certainly wasn’t going to complain. Especially not since it looked like it would be a perfect fit for Alibi.
After rummaging a bit more and adding a couple more cat toys to the basket, Ket wandered over to look at the livestock in their cages. She never came away with anything, but it was always peaceful to watch the fish swimming around the aquariums or the lizards basking on their rocks. Besides, it helped delay having to go back outside for just a little longer.
