Anjali got to the gym early for her class. It was snowing out and the forecast promised at least a foot by dinner time, but for now the gym was open. Really, there was only a dusting, but it was enough to keep people from getting their workouts in. The place was practically empty with only a handful of guys lifting weights, a couple running and one girl on the ellipticals. Had she ever seen it this dead?
"You'd think we were in Arizona." Joe, the guy working the front desk teased and she had to laugh, shaking her head. "Right? But even in New Jersey they would shut down the gym for weather like this. you guys are more hardcore." The guy shrugged. "We don't close for nothing." He explained. "We're used to this." She knew it was true. This wasn't her first winter by far up there in Vermont, and it wouldn't be her last. It was a bad one, but she'd seen seven feet of snow dumped on the ground before. It wasn't often, but it happened. "Yeah, yeah.. but if my class is empty I'm bouncing early." He shrugged and smiled wide. "That's between you and the boss, chica." She waved at him as she made her way down to the training rooms, turning the handle to the room that was assigned to her during her yoga time slot and flipping the lights on. She let her duffel fall to the ground at the front of the room and began setting up, though she was certain no one would show today. Who would risk this weather for a 60 minute yoga class.
The minutes ticked by and soon it was time for her class to begin. As predicted the room was empty, save for Anjali who was sitting at the front on her rolled out yoga mat, cellphone in hand. She had to wait for at least fifteen minutes before calling it. It was nearly eight minutes in and she was thinking about rolling her mat up when a familiar face showed at the door. When you had blue hair, it was hard to forget you. She didn't know the students name, but she remembered her from previous classes. "Yay, I got one!" She teased, throwing her phone onto her bag and pushing herself to her feet. "Looks like it's just you and me today." Her smile was as warm as it was cold outside, her hands on her hips.
