Likely to be found in. . .
Coffee shops
Book shops
Antique shops
Second-hand shops
Restaurants & bars
Gas stations/convenience stores
Flea market/farmer's market
Anywhere outdoors around town
He's probably. . .
Uncomfortable ordering what he really wants
Looking for some obscure DIY manual
Seeking out old devices of some persuasion
Submitting to his need for more/better clothing
Demolishing any salad bars and/or drinking whiskey
Having a crisis over snack choices
Manning his pencil-sharpening booth
Riding his bike, driving around in his old station wagon, or strolling between nearby errands
He's happiest when. . .
The barista knows what he's after
He's found something from the fifties, written in incredibly high-minded language
He finds an old pencil sharpener, toaster or old gadget he doesn't own yet
He finds something that serves his purposes, looks alright and doesn't smell too funny
The salad bar has a strong variety and the ice cubes are clear as glass
People become genuinely interested in his craft/business and ask serious questions
He gets from one place to another without hurting himself or stepping in anything
The player hopes. . .
He'll find friends of varied ages and backgrounds
People will engage him intellectually
People will like injecting humor/playfulness into a scenario without it necessarily dominating the thread
A few people will be aware of his work (Going Deep is a real show)
People will have their characters react honestly to him/whatever he's doing
He has the opportunity to get spooked now and again
I look forward to all kinds of responses and welcome any tips or suggestions anyone might have regarding the plotter itself.
