Why'd you name them that?

[Vincent Verax]

Because I haven't done this yet and I feel like procrastinating on everything I should be doing:

Vincent Valen Verax

So I can really only take credit for 1/3 of this name and that's only the first part. I've always had a love for the name Vincent. Probably due to my unholy obsession with Vincent Valentine from Final Fantasy 7 which was one of my favorite childhood games. When I stayed up too late one night in my early teens listening to loud music, I decided I wanted to make a goth boy for a ridiculous site that I was on with Maddie. The middle and last names were suggested to me by another girl on the site and I just loved they way they sounded together and that they made his initials VVV.

Jacob Tyler Lawrence

As with many of my naming choices, I just lean towards names I like. While Jacob in it's full form is more of a "Meh" name for me, the nickname Jake (which he pretty much exclusively goes by) I've always liked. The nature of his family - being obsessed with normalcy and domestic perfection as they were - made Jacob Tyler seem like a good fit. Jake doesn't like it so much because that's what his mother used to call him when he was in trouble, but that's beside the point. Lawrence was less of a conscious decision and more of a "Hey this sounds good."

Spencer Victoria Ellis

I like unisex names. Spencer in particular is among my favorites. Mind, when I picked this name out, I knew nothing about Ashley Benson or Pretty Little Liars. Funnily enough, Spencer is a name of a character on the show, and Ashley's middle name is actually Victoria. That was all coincidence. Being that Spencer is a unisex name, I decided to give her an extra girly middle name, hence Victoria. Again, Ellis was a name that just sounded nice. I especially like saying "Spencer Ellis" out loud.

Chloe Catherine Singleton

Chloe is a disgustingly cute name for a disgustingly cute young woman and I've always wanted to use the name. The fact that there is a movie Chloe wherein Amanda Seyfried plays the main character (a prostitute named Chloe) is pure coincidence. I didn't see the movie until a while after I made Chloe up. That was kind of a mistake. BUT ANYWAYS. Chloe Catherine was cute sounding, which was basically my whole goal when naming her. Singleton was stolen from one of my friends who has a personality very similar to Chloe.

Lucas Maddox

Okay I will be honest: When Cat approached me about making Matt's childhood best friend, the name Luke was always in my head and when I realized the nickname possibilities, I was totally sold. Lulu and Skywalker. Done deal. Maddox was decided upon by both Cat and I. I just really like the way it looks and sounds. Lulu doesn't get a middle name, because I felt like having one would just throw off the sound of his name. He isn't too torn up about it though.

Devon Elise Shaffer

Unisex name again. I had actually wanted to make a character with the name Devon years ago, but real life was like "Hahaha no i don't think so." So when the chance to use my FAVORITE actress as a PB, I could choose no name other than Devon. Plus the nickname Devi is really cute. It never actually came into play in her application, but Elise was her grandmother's name, and Shaffer was a cop out. xD I stole Diz's vet's name because she has a lot of the same characteristics as Devi.

[Mia Bell]

Mia Victoria Bell

Mia (pronounced Me-a): I first heard the name from watching One Tree Hill, it was a show a fell in love with and one of the guest stars Kate Voegele's character name was Mia. After hearing it I fell in love with the name (I will most likely name my daughter Mia if I have one). That's how she got the name Mia.

Victoria: I had always liked the nickname Tori, but Mia Tori didn't sound right to me so I had it become Victoria.

Bell: It's mean Beauty or something like that so that's pretty much why I used it.. That and Because I just like the name and that it went well with Mia Victoria.

Not much going on with her name; nothing really special..

[Vincent Meian]

Vincent Meian:

~Vincent means "conquering" in Latin, but the original way I had his name spelled was Vynxient. This is due to a language I created, where his name is a shortening of the phrase "Valyn, xien talos" or "With night, peace".

~Meian (depending on the kanji used) can mean "gloom/shade", "light and darkness", or "a good idea". Mostly, I picked it because it fit him (he's a very shady individual! *laughs*) but also because his original last name was Sh'yd (pronounced pretty close to "shade"). Sh'yd means "truth", by the by.



Nakia "Nik" Kenjutsushi

~Nakia is Russian and means "unconquerable". xD I thought it was an amazing pun for a person married to a man whose own name means "conqueror". It also shortens into a cute unisex name, and I like that.

~Kenjutsushi is one of many Japanese words for "swordsman" and is a relatively uncommon last name. While she doesn't wield a sword at all, she does have a warrior spirit of sorts and I thought it would fit her well.

The first name that pops up in most American's minds when it comes to a New England first family is 'Kennedy.' It also ties into a gender neutral name. I chose Whitmore because it's a combination of the words white and more. Psychologically, it's a reference to her family always wanting more of her and her liking of the 'perfect' color white.

I guess my associates in Psych really comes in handy! lols

[Tanner Larson]

Tanner Larson

I once went on a date with a guy whose dog, Tanner, was constantly jumping all over me. The name just sort of stuck. I thought I made Larson up off the top of my head, but it occurs to me now that somebody works in this building with the same last name, which is probably where I got it.

Cynthia DeMato

Cynthia is a strong, independent woman, so I named her after my friend's mother, who is the same way. I also thought the playby looked like she could have that name. I wanted her to be Italian American, so I went with a last name that sounded Italian; it occurs to me now that she's subconsciously named after an American Idol contestant who had that last name, as well.

Barbara Robinson

I wanted a name that sounded, well, large and in charge. I was going to go with Marjorie (a la Large Marge) but decided to change it up a bit; I like how Barb sounds. Her last name is taken from Mrs. Robinson of the movie "The Graduate," for no actual reason.

[Jocelyn Delancey]

Leiken Do Chu For lei his first name was completely random. I wanted something that sounded interesting but that could be shortened down a little if needed. For his middle and last name I went with the mix of his heritage. His last name was a chinese last name and his middle name, not commonly used there, was added by his parents due to it being more typical in america.

Erik Nathaniel Koler Erik is a name i've always liked, at least in that spelling, It is also a common way to spell the name in Europe so I chose it. It was also handy because it could be shortened into something 'cuter' like 'Eri' which was an easier way of giving Erik feminism. He's still male by old gender identifications so I chose nathaniel a pretty even ground on his masculinity. Koler is an estonian surname which both his pb and him have in their heritage.

Min-Hee Wang I absolutely love the silly things you can do with Korean naming systems. Min-hee is a korean name that means 'brightness and pleasure' so i thought it would be a suiting name for her personality. I chose the surname wang because i was amused at how it sounded like"Mini wang" in my mind.

Jocelyn Ashley Delancey Jocelyn and Ashley are both names that were created unisex, though in america both of those names are usually used for females so i chose both to add to my poor character's self image crisis. Delancey is a french surname that i've used for a previous character (whom i made his older brother) of mine.

[Appoline Meian]

Appoline "Lin" Meian:

~Appoline is the feminine version of Apollo, Greek deity associated with the sun, archery, and prophecy. Since Vincent is a Religion/Mythos major, it made a certain degree of sense that he'd take a little amusement in naming his daughter after a god. Additionally, in her original incarnation, the character had a split personality and I wanted to give her a short unisex name that wold give her an air of mystery. More on that below.

~Lin is a name common across much of Asia and even in Europe, with many different uses and meanings. It can be a surname or given name, or even the shortening of a name. Though Appoline uses it as the latter (or rather, her Japanese classmates did), the meaning of it in Chinese is "jade" or "forest". Another pet name derived from it is Lin-Lin, which in Chinese means "the beauty of a tinkling bell". Lastly, Lin in Japanese is pronounced Rin and is written as "cold" - an adequate assessment of her first incarnation's alternate personality.

~Additional note - If those puns weren't all enough, the Japanese word for apple is "ringo". No one said her mother didn't have a say in naming her, even though her dad chose the name originally. x3

[Calliope Gallo]

For whoever reads this, I'm sorry it's so boring and that it has absolutely no real appeal. I do put a lot of thought into names, but not in the sense of making them fit the current character. I picked them because they suited the chosen PBs, and that the names all together seemed to flow. Normally they just sort of come to me unless I specifically want to name them that for a reason.

Calliope Rhea Gallo
Calliope- I got the name from Calliope Torres from Grey's Anatomy, looked up what it meant and it turned out to be a Greek muse. So that's also why she's Greek.
Rhea- Sounded good with Calliope.
Gallo- Was a Greek last name that suited. Though originally her last name was going to be Jones, but it wasn't what I was going for. So that's why Eric's last name is Jones.

Liam Victor Bell
Liam- I liked the way it sounded, and it suited the PB.
Victor- His Neice's middle name is Victoria.
Bell- Not chosen by me.

Noah Evan Washington
Noah- I liked the name. That's it. Nothing special here either.
Evan- It was an X-men joke because his original last name was 'Daniels'. So it was Evan Daniels and he was going to reference his love for X-men a lot, but never got the chance because I thought Daniels made his name too short.
Washington-A long last name, suited the other name.

Lucy Ellis Serrano
Lucy- I picked the sweetest name I could find.
Ellis- I adore the name Ellis and wanted to use it somewhere, in some capacity.
Serrano- I like the name. Ha.

Carter Gareth Chevalier
Carter- Suits my baby just fine.
Gareth- A knight of the round table. Also the middle name of his Uncle, who I played briefly on another board.
Chevalier- A traditional French last name.

Blaire Morgan Montoya
Blaire- It took me a long time to pick a name that suited her, and I cycled through a lot. It sorta just came to me.
Morgan- Was originally her first name but I chose the last name first and still wanted it in her name in some capacity.
Montoya- Taken from the DC comic character Renee Montoya. Cause it sounds awesome.

Leonardo Romero Huerta-Davis
Leonardo- I like the name Leon, but felt it was too short because I wanted him to have a stupidly long name.
Romero- Sounded nice. Suited the flow of the name.
Huerta- Standard Spanish surname.
Davis- Standard American surname; sounded contrasting enough to Huerta to be a conversational piece.

Valentia de la Torres
Valentia- I have used it before and I just think it's a really awesome name.
Torres- Again, Grey's Anatomy. Calliope Torres is a pro.

[Michael Arceneaux]

Michael Clayton Arceneaux
Michael is the name of an archangel in Jewish, Christian, and Muslim teachings. I'm not religious or anything, but I was operating under the assumption that his parents were, which is why he was stuck with the name. Plus, I had an archangel theme going because his half-brother's name is Gabriel, which is also the name of an archangel.
Clayton is more of a random pick with no real meaning behind it. It simply happens to be a name I like and the middle name of one of my favorite celebrities.
Arceneaux is a common Cajun surname in southeast Louisiana, which is where Michael's father is from.

Ulrich Randolf Schneider
Ulrich is a name I chose because it is German and according to one website I visited, it can mean "wolf ruler" or "power of the wolf." It sort of fit his personality because he generally operates like a lone wolf.
Randolf was pretty much chosen at random. I searched out for a German name that wasn't extremely common yet was a bit whimsical at the same time.
Schneider is a common German surname and the last name of my old pediatrician. It seemed like a perfect fit. Plus "Ulrich Schneider" sounds super German when you say it. lol

Christopher Jacob White
Christopher was pretty much an obvious choice. It's just an extended version of Chris, the name the character I scooped up in Jam's wanted ad.
Jacob was chosen because Jam and I thought it sounded like a solid American middle name.
White is the last name of the superhuman family Jam created.

[Gwen Peyton]

Seems like an interesting thread. I have only one character (as of the moment) so here goes.

Gwen Peyton
Her full name according to her bio is Gwendolyn Jean Peyton. First off, Gwen is loosely based on a prototype of a character I have used in a few sites. I've always liked the name Gwen; I like how it rolls off the tongue, and it sounded kinda spunky too me, not too sweet, which suited the character, plus it had that normal name feel to it, which I was going for. It wasn't too common in that you would find about 10 people named Gwen in a single crowd, but it wasn't too unique either. I was supposed to name her just Gwen, but when I had the opportunity to enter her full name in the application, I entered Gwendolyn on impulse, if only for the sake of her having a longer name than just Gwen. I never really cared for the name Gwendolyn initially, I thought it was unnecessarily long and too fancy-sounding, but it grew on me after using it for her application. I wanted a short, all-American middle name to balance Gwendolyn out, and Jean came along, and Gwendolyn Jean sounded good together.

For the last name, I wanted it to sound like something that would be good for a first name as well, like Taylor. I was originally going to name her with an Italian-American last name, but ended up with a more American name to make her sound more ambiguous. It was a toss-up between Perry or Peyton, but then I ultimately went with Peyton, since Gwendolyn Jean Perry didn't quite have the same ring to it.

In my head though, she is still of Italian-American descent, though it's not clear if this heritage is distant, which is why I looked for states with a huge Italian-American population to pick as her hometown, and went with Woodbridge, New Jersey for her history.

[Akira Koizumi]

Akira Koizumi: Akira came from my favorite character from a Japanese drama called Nobuta wo Produce. For Koizumi I went to Behind the Name.

Kingston Carmichael: One of the girls' name is Kingston at where I work. I don't know why but I really like that name. If I remember correctly Carmichael was just a random name I picked for his last name.

Paul Robert Wilkerson: Nothing special about this name. It was just what I picked.

Daniel George Taylor: I wanted a teacher named Mr. Taylor. I don't know why but Mr. Taylor sounded like a good teacher name to me. Daniel I don't remember the reasoning. For George is a family name in the Taylor family.

[Oliver Barnes]

I'm really boring when it comes to naming my characters. Usually, I have one name I'll want to use and just fill the rest with something random.

Carleigh Rose Davidson: I knew Carleigh was going to be a bright and cheery individual. Carly sounds like a happy go lucky name. I also figured her parents would be the type to do a weird spelling. Rose flowed nicely with Carleigh, and then I chose a longer last name to go with it.

Kristina Marie Novak: I've always liked the name Kristina. Since she's originally from the Czech Republic, I went on a site and found that Novak was a common last name over there and it worked. Marie was chosen as a random middle name that connected her first and last name nicely.

Oliver James Barnes: Since he was a wanted ad, I didn't choose Oliver's first name. I've always liked really traditional English names for boys. Hence James and Barnes.

William 'James' Lawrence: Again, see the above. I also figured it'd be sort of funny to give James this sort of name when it contrasts with his personality.

Michelle Elizabeth Reed: Like the majority of my character's, I choose their first name and fill in the rest. Always loved the name Michelle, used my middle name since it's a common one and then found a one syllable last name so her name wasn't a mouthful.

[Marnie Sullivan]

Marnie Anne Sullivan - Marnie was actually cobbled together pretty quickly. I thought of her name because my brother has a friend who is dating a Marnie, and it stuck because no one else on the board was using it and it's not so unique that it's weird. The middle and last names just sounded nice with it.

Josephine "Josie" Raines - The name Josie comes from a character in Jodi Picoult's book "Nineteen Minutes," which came out in 2007. I had just read it when I decided to make a new character, so Josie was it. Her last name was originally Phillips; she became involved with a character named Callister Raynes. By the time I decided to app her here, I had learned that Callister Raynes is the name of a one-shot character on the TV show "Eureka", so I swapped out the surnames to avoid copycat issues.

Sophia "Sophie" Jane Tillman - Sophie's name history is actually why I chose to make her trans. I had originally planned to app another character associated with her, Patch, which I have now decided against but anyway. In another storyline, Patch and Sophie were a couple. In a storyline even further back, Patch was with a man named Michael. While I was deciding how to rewrite Patch's history for an app, it occurred to me to make Michael and Sophie into one character. As a result, "Michael" has largely vanished except as a birth name. Anyway, "Sophia" comes from Anima Sofia, which someone had explained to me shortly before I created her in her first iteration. The middle name "Jane" is new to Hammel!Sophie; it comes from Laura Jane Grace, the frontwoman of Against Me!.

Katya Moschella - The name "Katya" was picked by Dia. She wanted a surname that was Italian, Russian, or some such; after some searching and vetting I found Moschella, which is Italian and means "flea/annoying person."

Georgina Speer - Um... I made this name before Hammel (originally Georgina Carrington). Georgina is a British name, methinks? And Speer because... I typed randomly with my eyes closed and got something lie Soennr so I rounded it down and got Speer (but not Spear(?) Georgina Spear looks wrong tho)

Gryphon Bastien Matsuoka - Gryphon because... wings? Originally Griffin but Gryphon is cooler. Nyeheheh. Bastien because of family - step mother is French, didn't find out until a couple years ago that she wasn't his actual mummy. Was named after Dorothee's dad. Matsuoka because I used Behind The Name. No, I hadn't been watching Free! until after he was created. ;P

Finn Zared Eogeum - Surname again from Behind The Name. Finn because I wanted a cute name and was watching Adventure Time, so... BAM FIIIINNNNNN! And Zared because it means weird in a different language and I like unique middle names.
