Halloween Dance!

[Lilly Love]

If Live had known that Odion was there she would have been long gone. It wasn't that she was scared of him or anything like that she just didn't want to deal with him right then. Every time they ran into each other things didn't end very well. Clearly, since she had punched him. But Live hadn't seen Odion so she didn't know he was there so she didn't know to leave. So she stood at the snack table, picking at the food.

At first Live just thought her cape had gotten stuck on something but that thought changed quickly as the tugging changed from a pull to the cape wrapping itself around her. "Ah!" She yelled a bit, not a shriek, but it was quickly muffled as she was covered by the cape. She could hear people laughing at her too. Live could feel her blood boiling and she knew someone was gonna pay. Live had an advantage that night. She was literally in her element; darkness. After a moment of being covered with the fabric she quickly shifted into her shadow form, leaving the cape behind. It fluttered to the ground as Live vanished into the darkness surrounding them.

Its hard to explain exactly what its like to be a shadow. The best way to think of it would be compared to being a ghost. You aren't really aware of your physical being and it almost doesn't feel like you have one. Its more like you just shift your point of view around the room, like a camera moving around the walls of the room. After she shifted she quickly moved herself to be looking down from the ceiling. Who ever had just done that to her would pay. So far her best guess was either just some dumb telekinetic playing a prank or someone like Odion getting back at her for something.

She didn't see anyone extremely suspicious though and no one stood out. Live brought herself back down the ground and gathered her herself back together to reform. It looked like a black mass forming from the ground and then becoming a human again from that. However, for a couple seconds after she changed back she had an almost black aura around her, like her and the shadows were two in one. She stood on the ground, her eyes flicking around the room, the anger clear on her face. She actually stood just about fifteen feet from Odion and Lani but didn't know it was him and the culprit of her embarrassment.

[Dr. James Campbell]

James enjoyed holidays. He loved Christmas, but he liked Halloween too, even if he and Chase had been recruited to be chaperons at Hammel's dance. And he'd had quite a few people compliment him on his cloak, tabard, and crown, though not enough students had recognized him as Aragorn.

(He did appreciate Chase's costume as well, even if he did have the name of it across his back. Even the fake tattoos worked in the dimmed lighting of the auditorium.)

When Chase told him someone had spiked the punch, James just nodded. He figured one of the telepathic kids had tattled, which was good for them. "I'll go take care of the punch."

While his husband went to deal with the troublemaker, James walked over to the refreshment table and smiled at the students crowded around the bowl. "Okay, everyone put your cups down. We know what's in the punch and if you all put your drinks down now and walk away, you won't all get detention for imbibing."

James usually wasn't allowed to hand out detentions, but being a chaperone had special privileges. The students who had put their drinks down right away he brushed away, but he knew he would be getting some questions about it. First priority was to stop any more kids drinking tonight.

[Richard McAuliffe]

"Great! I've hardly got any friends here so it would be neat!" he answered somewhat enthusiastically. Of course he had sort of befriended with some of the guys on the football team and the soccer one as well, but as much as he loved sports he'd go crazy if fanatical sport enthusiasts were the only people he socialized with. So naturally his first and foremost goal for the night was to make good impression and try to make friends with some of his fellow students.

Unfortunately, most of his friendships in the past had been rather loose friendships. Usually it was all about being a member of a certain clique or his friends were teammates that he only rarely hung out with outside of school. But then, the way he treated some certain types of people usually meant that he was someone people avoided. It had been like that at Kocher and it probably would be like that at Hammel as well. But he didn't want to think about it right now, it was a problem for Richard of the future to deal with.

When Tak said that she wasn't very talkative and could do with learning some social skills, he was slightly caught by surprise. "Really?" he asked. "You strike me as a rather confident girl. At least you certainly don't look nervous at all to be on a date with a guy you've never met before." Even though he felt that a cigarette hanging out of the mouth was a crucial part of his James Dean outfit, it was starting to irritate him so he took it out and put behind his right ear before continuing. "Besides, you're both pretty and friendly" he said smiling.

As the song changed to a much more slower tune, he slowed down in rhythm. When she put her arms around his neck, he responded by gently putting his other hand on her other hip as well. This was going absolutely brilliantly, to him it looked like he was indeed making a great first impression on her and the people around them and her laugh strengthened that belief.

Her question whether any girl at the school had caught his eye, left him thinking for a moment. Looking away from her for a moment to gaze over the auditorium, he gave her a simple "Nah," an answer which he hoped she would find both unsatisfying and curious. Of course there were a plenty of girls he had his eyes on. Heck, pretty much every good looking girl in the school had caught his eye, which included the very person he was dancing with. But so far, he hadn't gotten to know any of these girls. "But i'm available. Feel free to spread the word if ya want" he said as he looked back at her.

Richard had forgotten how much he actually liked slow paced, relaxed dancing like this. Lately he had only gone to clubs where everybody was dancing like crazy to crazy fast music. As he was starting to really get into it, the music suddenly stopped and the lights went dark. Surprised, he stopped dancing and started looking around."Well, that's just great" he thought to him self a bit disappointed. "Oh, how very romantic" he mumbled and looked around, trying to see what was going on.

[Dr. Sean Neville]

Sean often chaperoned Hammel events; he had done so since shortly after taking the job as the school psychiatrist, and he continued to do so two decades later. His telepathy made him a valuable observer of events, while his demeanor and the fact that he genuinely liked teenagers made him approachable. The fact that for most of his tenure at Hammel, he had nowhere else that required his attention also added to his chaperoning duties. He had a partner to come home to these days, but Josh understood the tasks required by his job. While he enjoyed drinking with other adults, he was more than capable of abstaining for a dry event, and he intended to keep it dry.

At least Josh was allowed to come to this dance, as with the one on Valentine’s Day, and unlike the camping retreat. While the Valentine’s Day dance had ended particularly poorly, Brendan was no longer employed at Hammel, and that minimized the chances of a repeat incident. As such, the telepath had managed to entice his partner to come, particularly when he had mentioned that they could attend in their costumes.

As with the year before, they had coordinated their costumes. This year, they had chosen Victorian clothing, although Sean had gone out of his way to buy a pair of fake spectacles, without temples, because he thought they complimented the outfit.

The dance was going about as expected. Although, he heard the same student that Chase did announce that the punch had been spiked. He sighed to himself, and while the mind controller went off to find the guilty party, Sean excused himself from Josh and went off to sequester the punch. He could pour it into the drain in the men’s room and then mix up a fresh bowl.

Then they could deal with the guilty party during the next school day.

[Dakota Clemson]

Kota had spent her whole life being told she was the one who had done something wrong that she believed that she always was doing something wrong, even now. It was just automatic for her to assume blame for things upon herself. She was also the kind of person that didn't like to see others upset so she would much sooner try to protect them from that pain and take it up herself. Even if that person was a total stranger.

"Oh, well.. But you fell down.. And I didn't so.." Kota mumbled through her words trying to some how verbalize her thoughts. She had a major problem with trying to put her thoughts and feelings into words. It usually just came out in short little statements. Her eyes shifted around the room then back to the girl, not really sure where to settle.

Normally her eyes would have been her most prominet feature. They were big and often grabbed a lot of attention. However, tonight because of how Kota had the little gold mask thing around her eyes and the room was darker, they didn't stand out that much. Her hair was a lot more attention grabbing since it was all curly and teased and fluffy. The costume really did fit her pretty well. The random girls comment caught her off guard though. She would never have thought that unless the girl had said it. Not that she believed what she heard.

"Oh... I---" Her words were cut off though as the lights and music suddenly cut off. As the girl moved closer to her, Kota wasn't really sure what to do. She was freaked out by the sudden darkened room but even more so by the girls actions. She was so little and clearly younger then Kota but she still felt almost fearful of the girl. She just wasn't very trusting and she knew that at this school, just because you were small didn't mean that you weren't a threat. "Umm...." Was all Kota could really think to say as she stood there, not sure what to do.

[Noah Washington]

Noah was a sports guy at heart. He'd tossed up a few ideas for what kind of costume he was going to wear before he finally landed on a theme that he was comfortable in. And then it was only a matter of time before he found something to wear that he was comfortable in; pants tucked into his socks and all. If it involved a lot of dancing, he couldn't very well wear something extravagant, otherwise he'd never be able to move!

And when he got the name of the person he was matched with he couldn't help but grin all the way from his dorm to hers. He had totally expected the matchmaking thing to be the opposite, and find out that he was set up with someone he had nothing in common with. Turns out the organiser was actually being pretty good to him.

He walked along the corridor, past a few people who were rushing out to make the dance. Something about being late already? Ten minutes or so was hardly late, right? Besides, not everyone could rush the door and be on time. With the last few steps he closed the distance between himself and the door, raised a hand and knocked twice. When she opened it she'd see him standing there with a full-toothed smile.

[Mia Bell]

Mia started pacing in front of the door; she was really nervous which made her feel awkward. She didn’t know why she was this nervous, maybe because it was a dance? Or was it because of the person she had been set up with? She took a deep breath, she wished Kouji was still around to help her calm her nerves down but he had already left.

A part of her hoped she hadn’t gotten too dressed up for this, but that was kind of how she was style wise. Always more extravagant, she just had fun with the more ‘out there’ outfits; she liked putting them together and she liked wearing them.

Mia bit her lip, only a few minutes had passed but she felt like he wasn’t going to show. Maybe that was just her being a pessimist, she couldn’t help but think of the worst possible thing that could happen. Maybe he actually didn’t want to go to the dance with her? Maybe he thought he was going to be paired with someone else? Then someone knocked on the door and she gulped. Moment of truth, she went to answer the door, opening it up slowly and she felt relieved when she saw his smile. She smiled back, teeth showing also, she hugged him. “Oh my gosh. I can’t believe this. Why didn’t you tell me you signed up for the matchmaker thing?” She was excited and all her doubts faded away when she had saw his smile. This was going to be a good night.

She stepped back to look at Noah’s costume and grinned “I love the costume.” She tugged on the sleeve of his shirt. She was big on sports; it was something her and her older brother had always bonded over; that and their attraction to woman…

“Wait what? No way. You can’t be serious. Fuck?!”

Romeo was among those who rolled their eyes and joined in an almost communal tired sigh and/or irritated groan as the music was cut and they’re all forced to put their cups down. So someone spiked the drink. Big whoop. The Irish teen had a swig of it and seriously, you can barely feel it. And no, him sneaking out to drink on an almost daily basis (ergo building quite the tolerance for alcohol, and that’s not even counting his genetic ability to process it better than most) has nothing to do with it. A mickey of vodka wouldn’t be enough to have an effect. Clearly the one responsible was an amateur; if it was up to the teen, he would’ve used a 2-6 at least. (Or at least two mickeys, since it would be tough to sneak in a whole bottle).

“Boo! Boo!” Romeo hoped mob mentality would ensue and a couple more people from the other side of the room would join. They’re supposed to be chaperones, not party poopers. (Because those two are mutually exclusive in his book). Not that he particularly cares about being buzzed in the party; he already was tipsy when he came in (he and his friends were all surprised he was let in) and has a stash with him thanks to his awesome costume

And to rub salt to the injury, someone decided to mess with the lights. “Dude, no one likes a party pooper,” he said, giving the blonde a glare as he put a firm hand on his shoulder, “I’m already pissed right now, believe me you don’t want me mad.”

So much for having a fun Halloween party. Thank god he had a few more lined up within the week.[/justify][/blockquote][/font]

[Noah Washington]

Noah pulled her in further when she hugged him. While in some part he had been looking forward to getting matched with a stranger, this was a lot better in the long run. He knew he was going to have fun with her, so he had nothing to worry about. And she knew him well enough to know that she could dance with other people if she wanted.

"I figured I'd give it a shot. I didn't have anything else planned." Noah shrugged with a grin. He wasn't embarrassed by the choice or anything like that, because he honestly just didn't care what people thought about the matchmaking thing. He tipped his hat in her direction, "Thanks. I couldn't resist." He extended his arm to her so she could take it and they could head over towards the dance.

"See, if I would have known it was you I really could have come as an Elf or something. But the pirate suits you just fine." He reached over with his free hand and tapped on her hat a few times.

[Mia Bell]

Mia wouldn’t have mind getting matched with a stranger she liked meeting new people but she knew she was going to have fun with the person she had been matched with. They already knew each other, and already had fun with each other so why not? She didn’t feel like she would want to dance with anyone else, except for maybe Kouji but only to ask him how he was liking the dance. If Noah wanted to dance with someone else, she wouldn’t stop him.

“Well I’m glad you did.” Mia didn’t care either, just dances weren’t really her thing so doing this was kind of out of her comfort zone like it had been the last dance she went to. But she was strangely starting to like school dances. She grinned, her cheeks were going to hurt at the end of the night but it was going to be so worth it. “You look good.” She wrapped her arm around his and started walking to the dance.

Mia laughed “Oh that would have been awesome!” She smiled and giggled a little “thanks, the outfit is a little out there but I like it.” She had to add a few pieces of clothing of hers, like the under shirt and the leggings but it was fine, it went well together.

[Lani Hunter]

Lani laughed at Odion. He had seen Odion when he was talking about people he didn’t like but then Lani tried to remind himself that he didn’t know the whole story. That there were two sides. That what happened and what was told could be polar opposites. But he didn’t really care at this point. He trusted Odion and anyone who had punched him in the face gained, if not an automatic enemy, an automatic assumption that they were the one at fault. At least until he heard otherwise and then any word that didn’t sound quite right against Odion would be take with utmost skepticism. But regardless he didn’t think that Odion deserved to be punched in the face even if he had done something. “I try,” Lani said with a grin and turned away from her chuckling a little bit. Really anything to see that smile on his face.

He hadn’t noticed her sudden disappearance for he was distracted by the smirk that crossed Odion’s face. “Oh?” He asked curiously surveying Odion through narrowed eyes. He didn’t think that the redhead was going to tell him but he felt the need to show his interest either way. Lani’s brow raised and from the moment Adrianna walked in he was seriously wondering if Odion was planning on sharing. If not Lani might have to have more of that punch. A lot more of that punch, it was a good thing he had thought ahead and had two identification cards in his wallet. He had thought he had anticipated Adrianna coming with Venn but watching them now was hard. He wouldn’t have danced with her like that, he couldn’t have. He couldn’t dance and all of her lessons, though he had improved he still didn’t particularly enjoy it. So she could dance with someone.

Lani couldn’t help but chuckle behind his hand at Odion’s glare. Odion was not happy about his brother’s costume in the least and Lani wasn’t sure if it was because it showed his arms or if it was because of who he was with. Lani smiled behind his hand, Odion’s accent always gave him away when he got really angry. Waving his hands he made a downward motion as if trying to quell some of Odion’s anger. “Ok, ok,” he said struggling to hold back his laughter, “But weren’t you just complaining about how everyone else didn’t put enough effort into their costumes?” He gestured around the room. Lani smirked a little. “I don’t know,” he said and stopped himself, no. This was not happening. He bit down on his tongue to keep himself from saying anything else.

Shrugging Lani sighed. “We’re still friends,” he felt the need to say. Did that matter? It was so awkward. It was kind of terrible. They would pass each other by and do a quick ‘Hi, how are you? Good.’ And flee quickly in whichever direction they had been moving. His jaw clenched as he watched them. Venn stole her hat. She had looked good with that hat. He blinked and forced his eyes to the ground. He didn’t even notice that his fists were clenching along with his jaw until Odion said something. Forcing his hands open he didn’t know what to do with them anymore so he crossed his arms and laid his hands around his arms. So he was back to his old habits. Sheltering his heart by crossing his arms over his chest. He rocked back and finding the wall close he leaned against it and looked down at his feet.

“I know,” Lani said finally with a hint of a sigh. “I don’t know what came over me; I don’t want to hurt him.” Lani’s lips curled up into a little snarl, “But he’s my damn roommate and I’m sick of hiding from him.” Without remembering that Odion probably didn’t know that Venn knew that Adrianna had been kidnapped. He almost wanted a confrontation between him and Venn so that he could at least explain himself, but then what would he say? What could he say? ‘I can’t tell you’ would be a terribly weak argument but Venn hadn’t been there, he hadn’t known what Lani had been willing to do, he didn’t see what Odion had done. Lani’s eyes turned back to Odion and he reached out and took what Odion handed out. At that moment he found Odion’s blue eyes in the mask, however briefly and when he looked down at the disk he smiled. “Absolutely, thank you, Odion,” he nodded, “I think you’ll like it.” He grinned, or he’d hate it and insist that it was completely wrong in the ways of time travel.

But before he could say anything else Odion ran for more water leaving Lani holding the disk a little startled and confused. A growing shadow caught his eyes and the vampire girl appeared out from nowhere. He had to admit that she was rather terrifying but then he was also terribly jealous. He would kill to literally be in the shadows not just metaphorically so. But she looked like she was out for blood but then she couldn't know it was him. He glanced over and watched with amusement as the staff took care of the punch. He didn’t recognize most of them, well, save one. The telepath. Lani groaned inwardly and made a mental note to avoid him as well. Great. So as long as he avoided Adrianna, Venn, the vampire, and Dr. Neville this night would go rather well. So he was just going to stay here in this corner. Awesome fun stuff. He might need to ask Odion for that flask later.

[Sayaka Ito]

The other girl was sooo weird, even Sayaka noticed that much. But again, she couldn't blame Kota too much, considering the fact that she herself was a really shy girl. So Sayaka really sympathized with her. "But...I ran into you. So it's my fault I got knocked down," Sayaka assured her, though she didn't even know why she was doing so. After all, usually she might have stayed quiet during a confrontation like this. Maybe she was speaking more freely because of the festive mood going around?

Sure, the silly older people, the teens, were mad that they couldn't have their spiked drinks, but pfft, she didn't care about that. Of course, Sayaka's concerns were elsewhere by the time the lights had went out. Such as just what it was she should do. Her first instinct was to just stick close to Kota and wait for the lights to come back on. But then, she didn't even know Kota that much, at all. And Kota didn't know her that much either. But what else could she do, really?

"Hey, can you see anything?" Sayaka asked. She wasn't afraid of the darkness, pray tell, but she was afraid of just what might happen during the darkness, and so she kept herself close to Kota, trying not to show just how she felt about the situation through her voice. Oh why oh why did someone have to ruin this party by turning off the lights like that? Sayaka wasn't sure, at all. It wasn't a simple matter of just flipping the light switch, either. She had already tried to use her powers to shift the pull of gravity on the light switch, but that wasn't doing a thing. No...someone had done something to the electrical supply.

Approaching footsteps straight towards her. Elina didn't even have to try and figure out if this was her date since she soon heard an unfamiliar voice and the subtle apology in case he did keep her waiting. At that point she was a tad bit annoyed, but only because him appearing had interrupted her concentration when it came to eavesdropping.

"No, it's okay." Ellie could have claimed he hadn't kept her waiting long enough, but she was at least going to make an attempt to be nice to Kouji. Perhaps that could help them avoid awkward silences. "Maybe we should grab some punch." Especially since she had heard someone drop the combo of 'punch' and 'spiked'.

"What did you dress up as?" The girl asked, trying to come across as interested while, in reality, she couldn't care less. Perhaps she was a tad bit curious though, mainly because the contours in her mind didn't give away a lot.

[Odion Martins]

Odion cast an upward glance at his friend, that lopsided smirk dancing on his face. Tonight would be more tricks than treats it would seem. The mess of people at the punch bowl didn’t intrigue him in the slightest. The boy who spiked the punch was at best, a moron, and the people who were trying to fight to keep the tampered with punch were morons plain and simple. If people wanted to be buzzed, why hadn’t they had something before coming to the dance?

There were many reasons why Odi wasn’t happy with his brother. Odion was also Irish, you didn’t see him parading around in a raunchy getup. Despicable Declyn wasn’t a nickname Odion wanted to give his brother, even though it did have a nice ring to it. But Lani was right in that Odi was also upset with who Dec had come with, Hammel’s resident playboy, and the costume wasn’t helping anything. If Lani was trying to cover his mouth with his hand, it wasn’t working out very well. The exaggerated smile, though false, rose each time he smiled. Who was Lani trying to fool? Odi knew when Lani found something amusing, and more often than not it was due to Odi’s constant state of displeasure. He rose an eyebrow at his friends. “You’re not making sense,” Odi stated, his eyes going back to his brother. Declyn was putting in effort alright, for what Odion would rather not discuss.

Odi nodded again, listening to the predicament Lani was in as he returned to the familiar posture of holding up the wall. “That’s better than nothing,” he offered, and then gave Lani a gentle pat on the arm. “It’ll take some time.” Odion was willing to be Lani’s metaphorical shoulder to cry on. Odion didn’t know Lani had been hiding from Venn. What was this, high school? “So why are you then?” He asked, making to stand sort of next to Lani, but not leaning against the wall like his friend was so he could still face him. He stood straight as an arrow as usual, concerned with good posture and appearing taller than he often felt. Tonight he felt right as rain though, aside from Lani being in a slump, he was rather excited.

Until the butterflies hit him, that’s what he had decided had made him flee this time. That strange feeling he got in the pit of his stomach when he consciously did something nice for Lani. Odion was glad to be getting water while the staff sorted out the mess he didn’t want to be a part of. Unsure what to do next, Odi went back to where Lani had decided to stand for what seemed to be, the rest of the night. “Are you going to just mope around all night?” He couldn’t help it. He had been sensitive about the situation before, but if they weren’t going to have fun on a night that called for pranks and tricks, why had they come at all? But Odion took a quick sweep of the room and felt more tension than relaxation. There were a lot of people in here that he wanted to avoid, and he wasn’t sure that would be absolutely possible.

[Takchawee Ominotago]

Tak smiled at his reply about her social behavior. "It's not that I'm not confident.... I just don't really like talking to people all that much sometimes. I mean, this is okay though, because you're attractive and don't seem to be just trying to sleep with me," she smirked, and then laughed at his compliment. "Well thanks! I'm glad I haven't scared you away yet." Boldness was sort of her thing, and some people found it a little... Unsettling. Which was another reason she often chose to say nothing around people she didn't particularly like, since she had a habit of offending people. Not that she really cared.

She arched her back slightly as Richard put his other hand on her hip, glad that he wasn't some nervous geek that wasn't willing to get close while they were dancing. It was all in good fun, but it was definitely better when your date wasn't shy. At this point she saw Cam and waved back, making a kissy face at him when she saw his date. She wasn't the jealous type - if he wanted to get it on with whoever he was with, she was happy for him.

She turned back to Richard and gave a small laugh at his reply. "None at all, huh? That's too bad, I'm sure at least someone is interested in you." While she did find him attractive and was more than happy to dance together or even do some innocent kissing, she had enough drama in her life to keep her from doing anything more than that. "I'll make sure to spread the word. You'll get a date in no time," she winked.

Tak then caught sight of Kouji, and, a split second later, Elina. "Hey!" she called, loud enough for them to hear over the music. She waved enthusiastically... Just as the lights went out and the music stopped. "Damn!" she sighed, dropping her hands from Richard's neck and wrapping one around his waist, to make sure she didn't lose him. "Kouj?" She wanted to talk to him, but it was almost impossible now. Maybe he or Elina could just follow her voice... But then Richard commented, and she snorted. "Definitely. I don't think I want to know how many people are making out around us right now."
